I have to wonder if this means in 10 years, there will be all this nasty bubbling corrosion on every Ford sitting in the parking lot.

I put a hard eye on the wifes new Honda in terms of paint quality as I'm about to polish it and seal it. Gotta say, 10/10 in comparison to the truck. Ford must be spraying a thin of a coat as possible to save money or something.

I owned a 2008 Honda Civic in black at one point. Bought it certified and after about 2 and a half years of owning it, the paint on the car started to fade. Like, the paint said "Aight, Im done being the color you selected."

This must have been in 2013, so the car was on the road for 5 years.

I can deal with that. Because the honda being new and me sealing it/keeping up with it will definitely make it last longer.

It's just when the application/under pinnings of the paint suck. If it flakes off or is too thin to care about, that's when it sucks.

I see talk of aluminum panels. Is the body between the hatch hinges aluminum? Based on a quick magnet test, I sure don't think so.

No you're right, this is just a shitty situation and Ford is being a shit for not admitting to a clear and obvious problem.

Honestly I'm fresh out of ideas, God speed to you sir.

I am pretty sure all modern cars are painted with that low VOC water based paint, which is why the paint is so thin and chips easy (ala Ford). I've seen tons of 8th gen civics like you mention with clearcoat fade. I've never checked a honda, but my friends 2011 Infiniti M37X had between 3.6-3.9mils thick paint from the factory. By comparison, my fathers 2016 F150 measured between 4.5 - 5 and my mothers 2015 bmw x5 was 5-5.5 all around.

I think the Japanese save a few dollars in paint application.

Agree. To Honda's credit, they did offer to step up my issue to customer care and felt they had a good chance at getting it covered and fixed. I had decided to trade it in on a 2002 F-250 before I took it back. I know water based is supposed to be better for the environment, but I want a damn paint that will last.

OP, this car is a 2016?

Holy crap.. not good NOT GOOD!

WTF is going on w Ford these days.

yep 2016.

On your 2016? What's the mileage?

I've been so far told to **** off regarding my 2017 Fiesta ST because I noticed the bubbling about 5 weeks after I hit 36K miles.

41K miles.

The hood came out perfect. I'm happy with the results. The bodyshop manager said I should have 0 issues with my F1fitty.
