You're kinda wrong there, bud. There wasn't many 13/14 GT500s made, in fact, they had a much lower production than 03/04 Cobras- by about half I believe. And you can't compare rarity by looking at all GT500s made from 07-14 to just the 03/04. If you're going to compare production numbers for all Shelbys from those years then it's only fair you also compare all Cobras from 96-04 too, wouldn't it?
And as far as a better financial move, well, let's look at it like this - the 13/14 Shelbys are 5/6 years old, so they're still not going to be valued and looked at the same as our 03/04 Cobras. I'm sure all color Cobras weren't seen as a "sound financial move" back in 09/10. But the fact that there's less of them made - there's 4 or 5 colors with less production #s than Mystic, the last Shelby Carroll Shelby worked on before his death - his name carries a lot more value than SVT, all point to the 13/14 as being just as much a sound financial move as the 03/04 Cobras.
I know you're a diehard MC guy, but you can't completely look past the 13/14 GT500s as being a great value as well when compared to the Terminators.

There is a lot of passion in the car community... and that is a GOOD thing. GT500s and Terminators are both fabulous cars. I have one of each and love them both dearly. My statement above was based from a collector standpoint. Simply watch the values sans emotion. Values of nice Terminators continue to rise and cars like Mystichrome are among the top prices commanded. On the flip side, prices for all 07-14 GT500s, 13/14s included, have been and will continue to go down for a long time. We have not seen the price bottom on these cars yet.

it’s been sitting in storage for about six years. I think needs a new head gasket. Has all the usual bolt on mods, pulleys, intake, headers, exhaust, springs. Two sets of wheels including the stocks. Have all stock parts with window sticker and SVT documents. I was going to get it running right again and shoot for 40k but would take 30k as she sits

Not sure of your miles or condition, but the market does not support $30k for a non-running Terminator... even a Mystichrome example. If you want to sell it, my advice would be to solve all mechanical problems and then list it for top dollar. You’ll get much more interest in the car.

I'm just gonna hold out. It'll give me time to figure out what to do with the other half of the garage. Right now, I have my lifting equipment in there so that'll have to move for another car.

He posted it has 5000 miles. While that’s low for the year, it’s not goose low..
I agree, get it running and list it for top dollar. And put the original finish valve covers back on, or like a black finish or something. That blue doesn’t jive well with the MC paint.

The one thing that draws me to the 14's is that, for what it seems, this might be the last of the manual transmissions for the GT500's. Now, maybe Ford might backtrack, but most companies don't. Now that they have this SMG (or whatever it is) in the 2020 GT500, I think the days of a manual tranny is dead in a GT500. The GT500 is the premium Mustang so they'll put that SMG as the premium tranny.

Yes to all. I think the 2014 is the last of the manual tranny as well as the last convertible GT500 (for now). As for the DCT... I have a 2020 GT500 getting built in a couple weeks and I’m seriously looking forward to the whole package, including the paddle-shifting tranny. I have 7 other manual Mustangs to play with when I feel the need to go “old school.” Manual tranny cars are a dying breed, but I made sure to pass the skills to my teenage sons by making sure their first cars were manual Mustangs.

On a different note regarding the comment above about the 2014 being the last GT500 Carroll Shelby touched... it goes back to the car passion thing. The 07-14 GT500 was a Ford SVT product. Carroll Shelby got an “honorary degree” at the SVT GT500 University. There is a lot of rich history, but other than getting a seal of approval, the S197 as well as the 2020+ GT500s are all Ford.

It 'll be interesting to see how history treats the 2013/14. They are really dropping in value, if ford would have given them bulletproof bottom ends with steel lined blocks I think they would have a much better place in mustang history.

The valve covers are OE from the Ford GT, that’s why they are baby blue. I have the stock valve covers as well

I wouldn’t say they are “really dropping in value.” Yes, they, like the rest of the 07-14 GT500s continue to depreciate, but at least they are all depreciating slowly (compared to other cars from 07-14). In my opinion, all of the 07-14 GT500s are fantastic cars. When comparing them to the 03-04 Terminators, one glaring difference from a collector standpoint is the 03-04 was only a 2 year run. The Terminators also iconically ushered in the modern boosted muscle car era. On the flip side, the GT500s were made for 8 years with improvements along the way. Yes, the 13/14s sit at the top of the S197 GT500s, but they are really just improved versions of previous years. The Terminators, by comparison, were really an entirely different car.

Again, I know there will be passionate defenders of their favorite cars, but I am just looking at the comparison from a collector viewpoint. The 13/14 GT500s will eventually bottom out in price and that price will be higher than the earlier GT500s, but it won’t be anywhere close to the price difference between the 99/01 Cobra relative to the 03/04 Terminators.

That's my worry. I don't want to spend $50K for a low mile, one owner 2014 and then, a year later, that car is being sold for $40K.

As a collector, and from my collector point of view..., can I say that repeatedly too? I say buy what you like and not dwell on appreciation. When you figure purchase price, insurance, storage, maintenance, tags every year etc, cars are not for the serious investor. So it just does not add up. Unless you want to spend big bucks on original steel 32-34 Fords, that's a different story.

Depreciation for 07-14 GT500s has not been that drastic. The wild card is how will the 2020 GT500 affect prices of the 07-14 cars. This will only be determined with time once the new beast hits the streets shortly.

I remember watching an interview with Jay Leno a few years ago and he pretty much said exactly that. You can never know which car or marque might become valuable in the future, so you may as well buy what you like, and enjoy it.

Big fan of Leno and his show! He will be featuring the 2020 GT500 this week (Wednesday).

07-09 GT500’s have really tanked. I remember people paying way over sticker for 07’s.
