I don't think that is true, Look at 0001 & 0020 both of them are shown as complete cars less stripes. Both cars still had the base wheels from the line and that would be good for transportation and any overspray encountered during the painted stripe process. Remember, the vinyl stripes are the last step in the production process, so it makes sense to have the painted stripes done last.
Here is a picture of VIN 0001, (Craig Jackson).
Painted Side Stripe and White Stripe W/Yellow Accent missing.

Yeah, maybe you're right. That's still stupid expensive for painted stripes. I can see 5K, but 10K?!?!?? (That's just my honest opinion, I'm not crapping on the car, I would have seriously entertained getting one if one would have been available AND available without ADM.)

I thought the car was going back and forth from the plant to painted stripes/clear coat and back to the plant, so I can see the 10K cost being high for that.
But, if that's not the case,...........

Snoopy49,
How are you getting these window stickers? Are you just putting in random VIN numbers, or are these forum member VIN's? You are like Sherlock Holmes. :D

I try too never post Members window stickers. I am compiling a list of all the VINs and when I find one that is in production, I get a copy of the window sticker. I probably won't post any more now that the members have seen a few unless someone requests one.

Curious - when a GT500 starts to be made, how long does it take from beginning to end? I mean in Production at the 1st step to the last rolling down the assembly line.

Earl: Do you happen to know exactly when the WS becomes available? Obviously, "In Production" but from the first blue mile marker to the next, any idea how long that is? Perhaps better put...Do you know how long in days it takes from "in Production" to an available window sticker?

Thanks in advance.

It looks like they show up the day after the car goes into production.
They may not show up until they are in the body shop. I will let you know when I find out for sure.

I thought I read that correctly.
So, it is just a rolling chassis when it gets shipped out, then goes back for final assembly. That's the reason for the extreme cost for the painted stripes. Now it makes sense.

From the other Mustang forum,..............
Step one of course is to get steel formed into a Mustang shell/body and then sent directly to the paint booth and painted the appropriate body color and at some point once the body is painted the clear coat process would take place prior to heading down the assembly line to become a rolling chassis and installation of the suspension engine, transmission and interior.

In the case of the Painted OTT Stripe optioned cars once the body has been painted and left the paint booth the clear coat process is then skipped with the body heading down the assembly line in order to become a rolling chassis.

Once the car has become a rolling chassis it will then be loaded up and shipped to Team Penske's paint facility located not far from the FRAP whereby the already painted rolling chassis will be hand prepped and hand painted with OTT Stripes after which time the rolling chassis will return to the FRAP for further assembly.

After the rolling chassis returns to the FRAP it will return to their paint booth at which time the clear coat process will then take place with the rolling chassis then continuing on down the assembly line for installation of the engine, transmission and interior.

My initial thoughts were that Team Penske would handle the complete OTT Painted Stripe process including the clear coat application but it is now my understanding that the FRAP will complete the clear coat process themselves.

This past weekend I was able to observe and closely inspect a Rapid Red Metallic GT500 with Painted Black OTT Stripes and came away very impressed with the look, feel and final outcome on this Pilot Production car namely "PP0021".

Is that a specialty car??
See the SOLD TO??
Unnassigned Production

That's weird. I wonder if all painted stripe cars are going to have a window sticker like that?
