im working out what seems to be a charging issue or something in the tune right now. kevin has been out of town so im at a standstill until he gets back at it. after the car has been driven for a while my idle gets real low and the a/f goes to 17+. eventually it will come back to within range but clearly something is up. in the log i noticed the batt voltage drops to below 12 when this happens so im trying to figure out if the alt is crapping out and causing the issue with either the tune or the injectors or if its something in the tune and when it starts to idle low the alt just isnt spinning fast enough to make good voltage. my money is on something to do with the alternator or some other aspect of the electrical system. i have a j2fab 200amp alt, but i have alot of things running (twin 465s, stewart emp pump, hid's in both heads and fogs, coolant fan, twin 10" fans on my gt500 h/e ect...)
ill look everything over and see. car will fire right up and idle perfect for at least 15 mins when its cold. so im guessing it has something to do with the heat and everything running once its gets hot

Damn that sucks! I was hoping this was the dyno update

I got to think if it ran proper after your tuning sessions with Kevin....and all of a sudden started having idling and voltage issues.....it's a hardware issue. The tune isn't going to change on its own. Maintaining proper voltage is such a major pita on these cars, and especially with the demand your setup needs. Add in major heat/humidity...is it fall yet?! Sure doesn't feel like it! Ugh

For sure. Even if he rules out tune/software.....just by reviewing the log he can probably bird dog you towards a possible hardware issue

How old is the j2fab? Do they have a warranty? Did you do a big3 wire upgrade?

Interesting. I'd like to hear if the problem is the jfab alternator. The owner is on some Facebook pages kinda talking down on the Nations alternators. Quite a few have been backing him up.

I simply said Nations and boom! Of course he's not on svtp.

Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using the svtperformance.com mobile app

J2fab alt is about two years old. I spoke with justin and he said that the older 200amp alts arent as good as his newer ones. And yrs I have a big 3 wire upgrade, battery is in the trunk. I'm hoping it's not the alt but we will see. Maybe something just came loose, hopefully. I'll diagnose and see.
If it is the alt justin has made me a nice offer on a new one since he doesnt offer my model anymore. I just want it running (properly) at this point.

Have you noticed if your IAT's move quick? I watched mine the other day and noticed if I was creeping along the temp would rise pretty quick. But once I was moving it would drop pretty quick. Cruising on the freeway I think I was around 120 degrees. It was high 70's outside.

That's with every blower, warm while cruising because there isn't alot of air moving across the cooler. When you get on it the air flows.
But I dont have way to monitor iat while cruising, just while I log and I haven't logged a cruise yet

There's nothing unusual about that.....pretty standard with factory IC pump and line size.

I just don't remember it moving that fast with the eaton. I'm sure I'm paying attention to it more now though

So I'm getting somewhere now. I believe it's the load placed on the alt at idle. At night when warm I have: hid's, emp pump, coolant fan, twin 465s and all the other misc stuff drawing power. I switched over to a stock pulley on my alt and it has cleared up most of my issues.
Justin has been very helpful in all this so I'll give him credit for not trying to sell me something new. If I do need something he was willing to cut me a pretty good deal on one of the new 270 extreme alternators.
I'm still waiting in kevin to get back to me about the logs but I'm guessing all is well there.
Now I just need some cooler weather and I can get it on the rollers!

Nice! Great to hear Justin is working with you on this and not just suggesting to go pound sand. Good customer service.

One thing I did find while trouble shooting the voltage was that my fans low speed didn't work. Luckily i had a spare from another car i parted and was able to throw it in. Not that my coolant temps were high but I knew the fan should have come on sooner. So a little silver lining I suppose.
And yes, justin has been good so far in helping me with this

Ok I'm bringing this back. I ordered some arp 2000 head studs to make sure I didn't have head lifting issues with the 25lbs I'm looking to run. Next I bought a j2fab 270 extreme alt. After talking with justin the 200amp just isnt up to the task of all my electrical needs.
So I'm back at it. Still not sure how I want to go about the drivers side?

once all is done I'll fine tune the tune and enjoy
Here's where I stand now

Looking good. The weather is so much better now than a few months ago....vastly better dyno conditions if you get it wrapped up and on the rollers. Be cool to see another gen4 eclipse the 800 mark. I know Kevin has tuned several.
