IIRC the part-out thread was posted before this one, so I don’t see why there would be any hard feelings

I never made a part out thread yet. Lol but no, no hard feelings anywhere!

Humor. Sometimes it does not parlay into typed lines.

Well I thought it was kinda funny. Lol

No body panels to sell. Have a drivers side headlight, gauge cluster, nav/dash harness. Will make a parts thread of what’s left when I get a chance.

View attachment 1596155 Well as some of you already heard, the Mistress died Saturday Aug 10th at 1pm. I smashed into concrete barricades at around 105mph at the 1/8th mile track on Saturday during my 3rd test pass. I am 100% fine, had my medical assessment and to their surprise I don’t even really have any scratches or bruises. I am very thankful because obviously it could have been a lot worse. Thanks to the safety/engineering into a car that’s capable of 200mph from the factory and the safety precautions/ equipment required to race, I only walked away with some monetary and pride damages.

As for what exactly happened, I’m not quite sure yet. It got a little loose on the big end and like I’ve done every other time in the past, I let off. This time when I let off it took a hard right. We are all pretty certain is way mechanical issue. We investigated a bunch of theories
and the most plausible is that I cracked one of my axles on launch. It held together under acceleration but as soon as I went into decel it let go and bound up.

The engine, transmission, most of interior except 2 airbags and drivers side exterior is all good. The passenger exterior is totalled and the frame is ripped.

We know the chances we take and we generally try to make the best decisions while using safety precautions but shit happens. Be Safe.

Like a lot of you, I’m pretty attached to this car, it’s not just a machine to me so this is tough. However, I am not a quitter, this is my sport, my hobbie, my passion! I am not sure what path I’m going to choose next but I have options. I will come back with something faster and just as sexy as the this car.
SUPER late to the thread man, so sorry to hear about your ride! :( Im glad to hear youre ok. These cars are incredibly well engineered for safety. I hear all the time people romance the 60's and 70's muscle cars. I owned one for a brief time too. No way would I ever race one, not even close to being as safe as modern cars are.

Ive been in your shoes before, it sucks terribly. But it seems like youre a resilient guy. Get back in the saddle when you can and let her rip! Some advice though: the first pass or two back to a track, take the passes easy. Just drive through nice and easy. Get those butterflies out, then start adding some speed to your passes. Youll be flat out again in no time.

Hey thanks man. Yes these cars are definitely well engineered and was glad to have that airbag in my seat. Yes I will definitely be back in the saddle, keeping an eye out for a fully built Shelby for a reasonable price to pop up this time. I did pretty good parting it out but obviously still at a loss so buying one already built will help me get more even.

Thanks, but honestly man there are no butterflies. There was never any fear or trauma from this both at the time or now. Was just pure anger that it happened.

View attachment 1603287 I think my axle got a little bent. Lol

DAMN!!!! Well you have a great attitude about that whole situation. I would probably be a lot more butt hurt. YYes today’s newer cars have a lot more safety involved but given the chance I would still probably race a 65 GT 350 on a road course or a 65 Shelby cobra with a 427 anywhere I could. Best of luck on your next project!

Oh I was butt hurt, this car was my baby and I put so much thought, effort and money into it. But what can you do, that’s racing and shite happens. Just build faster and sexier next time.... The world has enough whiners in it already and I choose not to be one of them. ;)

Yup, I had to cut my axle tube horizontally along the length of tube with a grinder. 3 disks later I got it out. Lol

Don't throw that axle away, it would make a great garage wall art conversation piece!

Edit: Also it looks like the pinion gear in the back right of the pic has some good chunks taken out of a couple teeth.

Oh ya I’m putting it on the wall to go with the rear bumper. No the ring and pinion are perfect and I’m having the truetrac inspected to see if it’s perfect or not.

Well guys I have some new news. I’ve been a Terminator then Shelby guy for a long time but since the crash and parting out I changed it up. I was looking for a good deal on another fully built Shelby but decided to change it up abit and go another route. 16’ PP GT twin turbo/built auto. Don’t flame me too bad since who knows if I miss banging the gears and the whine of the SC I just may be back for another Shelby.

I will be making another post in the appropriate section of the car and will throw the link in this thread about it for those of you interested. I will still be monitoring this section to chime in or help people out where I can.
