They know how to spend it though. Lambos, Ferrari and I got a regular at work with multiple 570 McLarens.
The Italian restaurant I told you about that my wife and I ate dinner at last night had a testorossa and 360 Modena in the parking lot. It is common for my gym parking lot have a Rolls, multiple Porsches and S class Mercedes.

I think the conversation is shifting more toward behavior than status. People who are pretentious stand out more than people who are affluent. Pretentious folk have the outward appearance of wealth and have nice things, but have maxed out credit cards and debt is a lifestyle. It’s been said most millionaires drive Fords, which I can believe. I happen to know some extremely, extremely wealthy people and the fanciest car they have is an F150 King Ranch.

Pretty good article for the topic:

Sam Walton keep the same truck for 30+ yrs and his son had the same truck for 20+ years and they were multi millionaires. Most the “rich” locals I see pretty regularly are the ones who actually got money such as the owner of the Gullo franchise.

Our dealer principle only actually owns 1 vehicle, a 75 FJ. It's his pride and joy. He drives used cars from the lot nothing new. His wifes and daughters demos are both used vehicles as well. No planes or high dollar boats.

He has other business interests as well and could buy almost anything he wanted to, he just doesn't.

I live in the wealthiest county in Texas and will tell you that income does not equal wealth. Most of these people live paycheck to paycheck, driving leased luxury cars, and spending way too much on things like clothes. They make huge incomes and have no wealth.

Let that resonate a little.

They make a lot of money and have no wealth.

I live in the same county and I concur.

I don't have anything negative to say about it! I loved the area. I was just saying that area has a lot of money.

Lots of money there too, and lots of traffic.

shit drives me nuts, burns more in gas than they save lol.

if someone said they had a high income, to most people I think that would mean 100k-ish. When you say high 6 figure income that means high in the 6 figure range so north of 500k at a minimum

Not enough to buy a 1500 sqft 40 year old home in most of ca.

I see a lot of the same as well in New England. I would say 20% of my home services customers have baller wealth, Like 20mm Nantucket summer home wealth. The other 80% are a lost job away from insolvency.

I think about moving to TX from time to time, then I see a picture of a spider the size of my head and stay in CA

I live in a suburb just outside of Houston and I really wish 100k went as far you you described. Housing in a “relevant” area isn’t that cheap, nowhere near California, but 200k isn’t going to buy the killer house typically described.

High 6 figures has to be $666,666+. People just like saying they earn 6 figures and leave the rest up to interpretation
