Hydroboost Conversion Kit, 1996-1998 Hydroboost in 1979-1993 Mustang

Hit the “fitament”’tab

Looks like I actually misquoted MMs info. They have it at 69.6/30.4 with the 00Rs and cobra tears and 72/28 with GT rears.

They suggest 70-75% front bias and only to rely on adjustable valve for fine tuning

That is an absolutely awesome list. I expected it to be in the tech section though.

I find it extremely interesting that adding the 00R kit with stock cobra rear brakes takes the bias down about 2% on the front. I wonder if that has to do with not only the size of the pistons but the size of the pads? I seem to remember reading that the 00R kit actually has less pad contact area then stock cobra calipers.

I am seriously starting to think that the calculator I used is dead wrong. I am not as concerned as I was but I'd still like to know what the bias actually is.

Looks great. Mustang5l5 brought up the issue of the thickness of the inserts on the offset outer edge. I wonder if it would have been better to not offset them so much and instead just trim the pads.

We have not seen any issue with the thickness, I also increased the thickness of the top "hat" of the insert to give it that much more thread.

Mine are 6mm thick

Also for informational purposes when comparing the axial force applied to the inserts with the offset hole .5mm from the edge vs 3mm from the end it does not significantly effect the strength of the piece as a whole when put into fea software.

Good to know. I was on the verge of setting up my own FEA after thinking about this a bit. I really didn't think it would be an issue but wanted to double check.

I just installed my latest inserts into a set of XTS calipers, so we will see how they work with the 14" setup. My thought it the same inserts and spacer (or machine the caliper) would work for either the ATS/13" or XTS/14" brake setup.

My prototypes are made with 1018 cold rolled and torque applied is 90 ft lb (Had a 12.9 Bolt in the prototype so that it applied more force to the insert for strength testing) production pieces are made from 1144 stressproof so they are even stronger then the ones I’ve been running. A 10.9 bolt is all that is needed for this application and torque on that should be 78-80

I just received my insert kit today from Lowranger96. Really nice stuff. He even created a little installation instruction sheet. Even included a drill bit for the set screw should you decide to use it. I wish there were a trader rating on here. I'd give him an A+, 5 stars, 100%...

Thanks!

I'm interested in a set of inserts. Can you PM me? For some reason I can not figure out or don't have the rights to start a "conversation" or message. I'll keep trying to figure it out until then. Thanks.

I know that I'm new here, I actually just joined yesterday. I never joined this forum due to owning a 2001 GT and didn't think that it would be relevant for me, but I have been always been looking to do major upgrade my brakes. I just couldn't justify the cost, even for a 2k Cobra R kit. As I have been looking into different kits, I thought about doing the Cobra brake kit from LMR, FTR's S197 caliper kit, but the ATS brakes looked interesting, but I didn't like the idea of mounting them on my spindle using an elongated hole, but this kit is just what I'm looking for. I don't have enough post's to send a PM but would be very interested in purchasing a whole kit. Please feel free to PM me.
