Just like the title. It just started happening. I haven't driven the 2001 in a couple of months (2?) and the noise / feeling happened today, as I said, the first time out in a long while.

Sway Bar Bushings?

gonna have to get under there and start wiggling shit around. You can also try pushing down on the front of the car real hard and see if it'll do the same thing

I had that once, turned out to be a torn motor mount. Started with a bump that turned into sounding like the front end was falling off. Just a dry rotted out motor mount

Thanks for your input, folks. I think geoffmt is onto something. Yeah, it seems like the whole front clip wants to fall off, even at low speed and a small bump. I'll start looking at your suggestions.
I had a similar problem with my SVT Focus, but it was either side, not all the front. That turned out to be sway bar end links.

The land of commies and socialists!
How big of a bang are we talking?
Most common is anti rattle clips feel out of brake caliper brackets.

I swear everyone on the net has had this issue except my friends, family and myself. For a while that was the first thing I checked and I never once found one missing or not functioning properly. I always find loose k member bolts or other suspension hardware. Trust me I wish it were that easy in a few cases.

A pretty big bang, something more than a loose caliper. I haven't been able to check it out yet, since I don't drive it too often. Based on the feedback I have received, and searches the source could be: K-Member, Sway Bar bushings, motor mounts.

It turns out to be the driver's side strut, Bilstein. I saw some liquid on the outer part of the lower control arm, inside the wheel and the splash guard. The strut is tacky from the oil.
Replace, rebuild or whatever?
I got them from an 03-04 Cobra on flea-bay, so I'm not the original owner.
Replacements don't seem cheap and the rebuilds aren't either, plus the down time. I don't drive it often, so a couple of weeks to rebuild at 1/2 the cost might be my way to go.
Thoughts?

I've had a couple sets of shocks/struts rebuilt. But then I'm local to Bilstein. I was also able to have them revalve everything to match the HD's.

Are HDs (B8s?) the way to go and not too harsh of a ride for just a cruiser? My 01 is lowered at least 1.6" (Vogtland) so which to you think: would it be better to have them re valved as HDs or stick with the OEM valving (B6?)?

Personally I would go with the HD's. Mine is a nice day driver with occasional canyon runs. I think it rides fine. Even when I had the H&R's I thought it rode fine.

Yeah. After making a fool of myself, I finally figured out the difference between the B6 and B8. Don't feel bad about calling me out, I deserve it.

not calling you out at all...just giving you info.

What you choose can be a big deal, depending on what springs you have or plan to get later.

You would have to get rear shocks anyway, as our oem shocks will not physically tolerate a shorter spring (they will actually bend!..ask me how I know..). the B6 and B8 are good for that.

Now you have an excuse to lower it and get new stuts/shocks!!..
That is what is so great about our cars...all the available "upgrades."

Every time something breaks, i look at what I can upgrade..and all my wife does is roll her eyes now..

I had bought some (all four) used Bilsteins from an 03-04 Cobra and I have lowered with Vogtland (1.6") springs. One of the used struts blew out. My assumption, and you can correct me, is that the stock Bilsteins from the 03-04s were HDs. My plan is to get some HDs for the front. Thanks.
