Am I reading this correct?

A car can make too much power?

The company can’t tune the car for optimum performance with a certain transmission.
Where do people get this shit?
Youfube?

It’s not that it makes too much power, it’s that when you get into 550+wtq, you don’t want or need a 35mph 1st gear.

The 10a makes sense on a high revving soft torque engine, but a 6-7spd auto makes more sense on a zl1 or zr1 imo.

My experience with crazy torque is that it looks good on a dyno and spins a lot on the street.

One of my builds made 900wtq and 800whp and it wasn’t hooking even with a 3.08 rear and 28” tire.

My current combo only make 700wtq and 815whp on pump gas but hooks and books. On race gas it only make 980wtq but 1200whp from 6250-7750 and tapers slightly to 8000rpm.

That actually hooks better than the heavy torque setup was.

The zl1 makes like 550wtq at 3500rpm, it doesn’t need a 35mph 1st gear with a 20” drag radial.

I like how this thread started out discussing Demon's/HC's and got out of control. Now the ZL1 crowd is representing and trying to do the same. It will all come out in the next few months when the new GT500 hits the street. As far as drag strip my money will be on the GT500 over the ZL1 stock for stock but we will know soon enough.

I recall reading in Motor Trend that 14 GT500 was dead even with Gen 6 ZL1 M6. Of course getting either of these to hook was probably a huge problem but I have to think the DCT GT500 with better power to weight will outperform.

And I will show much respect if the 2020 gt500 beats them on the strip. I don’t give two **** faces about road courses. Never have. Never will.

I have never made any negative comments about the 2020 gt500.
I own a 2014 and want the 2020 to be the top dog but I’m not going to bash other cars to prove it’s best.

Sad, immature behavior with a dose of narcisism..gotta put this one through the old Ignore routine even for no other reason than not to keep coming back to this ridiculous (now) thread. Later dude.

It’s not monetized or tied to a business so no skin off my back.

Before you leave, do you know what a demon will run in showroom spec without the crate? I’ve heard 10.3@135 but not seen proof of it

@Klaus

The 6th gen zl1 in my experience is slighly slower than a stock trinity. But the trinity launches much easier, and has higher top speed.

The 6th gen zl1 has more downforce and handles much better than the trinity. Both are great cars.

What I also found great in motortrend was that the gt350r was .39 seconds off a gen 6 zl1 (manual) around big willow which is very very impressive considering that is definitely more of a high speed track. The mclaren 720s just ran like 170mph there setting a record 1:21 laptime. On the admittedly green (not sticky) track day that they tested the zl1 and gt350r the cars ran 1:27.8 and 1:28.19 iirc. They had a sidebar explaining that the track was not sticky that day, and that the exact same Camaro zl1 had run 1:26.x there just a few month earlier. You get a stickier track when it hasn’t recently rained, or there has been some racing series just within the last day or so to lay rubber down. Similar to a sticky drag strip. The fact an na 526hp 3750lbs Mustang is arguably running only 5 seconds behind a 720hp 3100lbs mid engine mclaren on a track like big willow is epic imo.

I think we are in for some surprising lap times and easy 10’s from the 2020 gt500. I’ve heard rumors it’s sub 4150lbs as well. The dct is worth its weight so I’m personally not really phased.

Yeah,...that won't even be a question. (I hope not anyways! lol)

So you’re an expert on the 10r80 but don’t own one.

Nice!

Which ZL1 are you guys discussing? The ZL1's and Camaro SS are geared more towards road course handling than drag racing.

If we are talking ZL1 1LE that's strictly a corner carving car so drag racing is not going to be its forte.

It's like a Boss 302 and GT350/R they are not drag racing cars they wail around corners that's what they are good at doing.

Tony

For the new GT500 doing drag duty, first you need a wheel that will fit over those huge rear rotors and calipers and wide enough to fit some decent meats. The meats also need to have a decent sidewall to plant that traction but it can't be too tall of a sidewall otherwise the overall tire height will be too tall and kill your gearing.

The ZL1 not the 1LE otherwise I would have stated the 1LE. Check my profile guy and you would see Im a current Camaro owner and am very aware of what they are capable of doing. Just so you know they both do pretty damn good at the strip. We have a member on here who roadcourses his ZL1 and has done strip duty with it. They make plenty of kits and GM even offers one ala Demon crate style that allow for 15” rims on the back to fit.

As soon as it drops then GM will drop the updated powered of the LT4 or the LT5 will be in them. Shits going to get real on the streets when these 2 giants do head to head battle for street supremecy. Im getting a hardon just thinking about seeing the suckers putting in work

Please explain. (Not being facetious, I really don't know what you mean by updated LT4?)
Yeah,......the sports/muscle cars these days are stupid fast. I love it.

GM left a lot of mustard left to add to the sandwich we call the LT4. Ive personally seen them at 1000hp roaming around. If GM does decide to update it to combat the GT500 then 800hp is not out of the question with the LT4. The big dog LT5 is supposedly going into the a Z28 car.

Long story short: competition is good for us, but bad on my wallet since Im leaning towards buying a Zl1 to replace my SS

Wow,...stock block and internals engine car at 1000HP?? That's impressive.
Is the Z28 coming out? I thought that the Camaro was going away at 2023? Maybe it'll be a 2023 car and limited production "last hurrah"?

They were “Houston stock” meaning mind you own damn business. The Z28 is a rumored last hurrah to bitch slap the GT500.

The money was no problem I like the GT500s.
