oh the government is shitty at handling money? well we knew that the moment they gave money to GM and dodge for failing. they should fail. same with ford if ford is on the brink. nobody DESERVES to stay in business, i don't give a crap who you are or how many jobs are on the line. the WHOLE point of the free market is that it indiscriminately kills weakness and rewards good decisions. when you bail someone out you circumvent that process which incentivizes shitty decisions.

100% agree. What was done was basically rewarding piss poor management from top to bottom.

So does Honda....

The Japanese manage their business with ruthless efficiency. They also don’t have to contend with the UAW and bullshit strikes. Believe Toyota shutdown it’s only unionized plant. That should have been a condition of the bailout, getting rid of UAW in order to receive assistance.

We’re a tier 2 supplier where I work for GM and other auto manufacturers. Luckily it hasn’t affected us. We have slowed down on GM parts however. But aftermarket, Chrysler, and some Ford products are still rolling out fine.

I see a point for unions way back when, this day and age I despise unions. They protect the lazy worthless people, take money from people to benefit the big union wigs up top **** em.

If they would have gone through bankruptcy they would have had a chance to redo those contracts. By giving the bailout we allowed them to keep everything the same which got them in the position they were in.

Reading material for those unaware of all the details during the “bailouts”.

Cliffs, Ford requested 9 billion and received 5.9 of which it is still repaying.

Was the Big 3 Auto Bailout Worth It?
Well, if you read into your article deeper, it shows twice that Ford did not get a "bailout", they got a loan from the energy department which went toward developing more efficient vehicles.

"On June 23, 2009, Ford received a $5.9 billion loan from the Energy Department's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program. In return, it pledged to accelerate development of both hybrid and battery-powered vehicles, close dealerships, and sell Volvo. It upgraded factories in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio to produce hybrid vehicles"

As others have said, loan != bailout. Ford was already in bad financial shape around the time the terminator came out. When Alan Mulally took over he started to right the wrongs of Jacques Nasser (like dissolving the premium auto group or whatever it was callled).

I'm not saying Ford is a company without sin, I'm saying they're the only company of the big 3 who weren't owned by the government and aren't currently owned by the Italians.

In essence it was welfare, banks were not lending during this fiasco and Ford needed the cash flow. Though I concede Ford had already maneuvered itself to better weather the storm before it hit than GM or Dodge.

Yup selling off Jaguar, Land Rover, &Aston Martin. They eventually killed Mercury too.

Its not hitting me personally, but I have friends at GM dealers in parts who have not had parts deliveries outside of some random transfers since the strike started. One said its hilarious when a customer comes in to yell at them about no parts and the customer is wearing a union hat or shirt.

Unions will be the demise of many jobs in the next decade or so. While the unions had their purpose in the past they have not evolved. Instead they have become more mafia and a shield for those that need to be gone.

But hey, if you are too much of a beta cuck to negotiate your own self worth then by all means hide behind your rep.
