I was just curious if the GM STRIKE is effecting anyone on here? I am not a GM employee by any means but the company I do work for has a contract with a sub company of GM that has been forced to stop production. I am not one way or the other about the strike since it doesn’t concern me directly, just curious. Hope it all gets worked out soon for those directly involved.

I make injectors for Bosch, so far I have not noticed a difference in productivity from this.

Manufactures around here are schedule to run production for two weeks after it started... if it goes longer than that they will start the layoffs.

I'm really curious about the economics behind Unions vs not.

Is union labor really inflating the cost of production for GM, or is it simply too expensive regardless of Union labor to produce here?

People forget that fact or call it foresight on Ford’s part. However you spin it, it happened.

Maybe a little bit of both. People also fail to recognize that GM and Dodge going down the drain would have caused irreparable harm to everyone in the US auto industry. Countless vendors that do business with the big 3 would have been hurt badly. I don’t have big problem with the government assisting the auto industry, but have a much bigger problem with them bailing out the Wall Street fat cats that caused this mess to begin with.

Ford took a big government loan just prior to bailouts, 5.9 billion which they are paying back. I think Ford Motor Credit actually did receive government aid.

Ford stock continues to do poorly, they may just be front and center of the next bailout.

Automakers' Report Card: Who Still Owes Taxpayers Money? The Answer Might Surprise You

so ford took a loan out which they pay back (With interest, i imagine) meanwhile over at GM they vaporize nearly twice that amount? nah bro. that dog don't hunt.

i have a mortgage not welfare. what GM got was welfare IMO and bullshit like that ALWAYS weakens whatever entity receives it be it a business, a bear, or a person.

U.S. government says it lost $11.2 billion on GM bailout

it was a mistake to not let chevy and dodge fail.

Yes.

I'm not far from one of their plants, and extremely close to one of the F-150 plants. Ford and Chrysler signed tentative agreements, and are sitting back to see how the GM negotiations go. Even Ford employees are slowing their purchases because of the unknown.

I think unions are good for the American worker, however they need to have less power and medal with less things than they currently do.

Don’t worry Ford is well on their way to being the recipient of the next bailout. The government lost money because they cashed out of GM shares early, that's on the treasury dept, not GM. They dumped them at one if its lowest points, lmfao...

oh the government is shitty at handling money? well we knew that the moment they gave money to GM and dodge for failing. they should fail. same with ford if ford is on the brink. nobody DESERVES to stay in business, i don't give a crap who you are or how many jobs are on the line. the WHOLE point of the free market is that it indiscriminately kills weakness and rewards good decisions. when you bail someone out you circumvent that process which incentivizes shitty decisions.

You think that was a mistake? I wonder who ended up snapping up most of those shares at a rock bottom price?
