To start , I just bought my first Gt500 it is a 14 . I am still trying to figure out all the technology in this car. ( previously owned many fox bodies) Today I noticed leaving my house that it was only pulling 10 lbs of Boost instead of 14. Does the computer limit Boost until the engine is at operating temperature? Also dropped down into 2nd and nailed it the other night and it kind of laided down before it went. I know 2 separate issues but I have never had all these computer goodies. ( well they will be good when I figure out how to use them) so the car is stock except jLt silencer delete.

Yes, if the engine is not up to temp, it wont run full boost. Helps keep the engine nice and safe! Great looking car!

Also factory boost gauge is not real world boost readings, its a calculated value. If you want real boost readings you need to get an aftermarket boost gauge.

There is a timing retard based on ECT, but a better question would be why would you go WOT when the engine is cold?

Welcome to SVTP!
I 100% always let the Oil Temp get into the Green Zone before I use any boost. Matter of fact mine has never seen above 4K RPM before She is all warmed up.

Thanks guys like I said new to the mod motor/ roots blower game. My foxbodys always ran better cold. Good info. I won’t be driving hard until it warms up again. It is hard to not tap the gas hard when you first get one of these cars... addicting even. Any other things that are common to y’all Veteans of the gt500 world I should know.

Keep the revs to 6,500 or lower. Rev limit is 7,000, but rods and oil pump gears don't survive too many attempts at the rev limit, especially after you start throwing mods at it.

I'd recommend getting something (SCT x4 / nGuage for example) to monitor/log some of the data not shown on the display. IAT2 and knock are good examples of points to check in on from time to time.

By periodically data logging I noticed an intermittent high IAT2 temp. It ultimately led me to find & resolve a problem I had with the intercooler pump relay/harness.

Why all the references to catch can on the forums? Is this needed if so why did ford not put them on?

Congrats on a great car. How many miles?

Also, your car is equipped with what are referred to as "nannies". These are safety features to keep you from killing yourself. That car is so much more than one of your fox bodies. It sounds like you expected it to break loose when you nailed it in 2nd. If you are running the OEM Goodyears or another street tire it will burn the tires off in 1st and 2nd. It has various traction controls that prevent excessive wheel spin. These can be limited and also turned off. I'll let you drive it more and then you can start playing with these features--but be careful.

Keep reading, but you need one on the passenger side. The driver is a waste of money. There are various versions from simple plug and play like JLT to others which require more work, like Bob's. I have Bob's due to the size and didn't want the reservoir sitting over the valve cover. I will say get one on there.

Tom , I just sold my 92 turbo coupe that had plenty of hp and even more torque than this car but none of these goodies. I am in love with this car especially the brakes!! It sure does not feel as powerful as my coupe ... much more streetable. I drive this car everywhere. Definitely like the traction control but I just want to understand how it all works. Thank you for the info.
