Oh Canada!
Today I installed a VMP 67mm throttle body. What a nice piece, but that’s not what this thread it for....when I removed the OEM TB
I was a little less than thrilled to see the coating of oil inside the elbow and particularly some gritty build up on the back of the OEM throttle body. The build up was also around the first fitting running into the elbow closest to the TB.
Can anyone comment on this being normal/typical?

Oil is normal. The dirt is not. How dirty is your filter?

Not very, has less than 2000 miles on it since new.

As stated, oil is normal. You running a separator?

No, not on the drivers side. For whatever it’s worth, there was no sign of this inside the intake tube or on the fronts of the TB blades

aftermarket filter kit?
if do...get rid of it...commone with diesel kits to have this

Hmm, yes it’s an aftermarket Steeda intake with their oiled filter.

Not my blower, just for reference, a lot of it was also around the inside of the elbow near this fitting.

Just to clarify, I bought the car @ with 20k miles on it. At the time it had an oiled k&n filter on it for unknown amount of miles. I’ve been running the Steeda intake since I bought the car and put just under 2k miles on it so I’m unsure how long this has been happening. I guess I’ll clean this up and check it again at the end of next season.

it could have built up from the prior owner. I use to check mine every time I did plugs which is about once a year. I do not use a catch can. theres just a tad of oil. clean up and put back on . no big deal.

It's not all that unusual. It looks like carbon to me. Your EGR dumps some amount of exhaust gases into the plenum area, so it's inevitable to some degree. To much can start to cause idle issues, but yours don't look that bad. You always have some amount of oil in your intake manifold. A full synthetic will leave less build up than a mineral based oil.

Thanks for chiming in. From the receipts I got with the car it looks like its always gotten Ford 5W-50 synthetic oil & thats what I used for the first oil change that I've done with it. This year however I will change to Castrol, but still a full synthetic 5W-50.
