Antone have pictures of Electric exhaust cut outs installed on their GT500? I have a customer that wants us to install them with a Kooks system on his car. Just trying to get some good ideas ahead of time. Appreciate any visual help!

Thanks,

This isn't a GT500 but I've looked at getting these in the past and just haven't gotten around to it yet. I originally saw a Mustang thread where the guy did something very similar. I haven't gotten underneath my car to see if its actually feasible with our cars or not. These are the QTP low profile ones.

Thanks, trying to make something cleaner than that. I found these QTP cut outs and just need to find a long enough straight section in the piping to replace them. I am thinking after the X pipe possibly for a better sound.

Just a word to the wise, I have had QTP cutouts on my car before and they are a horrible pain in the ass. The motors burn out and the electronics get screwed up often. If your customer is ok with the possibility of replacing parts on it and the cutouts potentially being stuck open while waiting for repair he should proceed. I personally would never do it again.

Thank you, I haven't been exactly excited about the idea of installing these. I'll mention your case to my customer!

Ditto on this had them about 3 years spent more money fixing them from leaking than using them. Honestly do real 3" exhaust with headers and be done with it.... Look around there's a thread with a bunch of pics on here somewhere

I would love to do this. My car now with cams, 2" headers, and a full 3" offroad exhaust is just obnoxious. I have drone, I have rasp, everything in my house that's not bolted down rattles and buzzes when my car is idling. I'd like to do something different.

I need to find a balance between squeezing every last bit of HP out of it at the track, but then keeping it calm and tame enough to drive everyday on the street and through my neighborhood.

I'm going to try the biggest resonators I can find first, but then I might look into cutouts of some sort and a much less aggressive exhaust.

Looks like a lot of work just to be a bit louder...Though in that youtube vid, it did sound good.

I think it's less about making it louder, but more about opening up the exhaust for more flow for racing while still having a quiet street friendly sound for everyday use. That's how I see it anyway.

Hmmm your probably right...I guess that is what it's truly for. I think with a good setup you can still achieve it. My setup is quiet for normal driving..well not super quiet but no drone...but at wot look out

Did you ever do this?
I need to do this on my car as I love the current sound with the stock mufflers in the big exhaust, but I know it’ll run better at track and not fear blowing out the stock mufflers with the WOT Box and 2-step.
Looking at the low profile ones.
Best after mid pipe?

I had the qtp cutouts with my kooks longtubes and a boss 302 h pipe, they were a pain in the ass and got stuck quite a few times. I was on the highway and the turndown off the h pipe fell off, the wires off the cutout wrapped around my driveshaft and shot out from underneath my tire. After that I took the other side off and got it welded up, now it's just a normal h pipe.

Cutouts are cool until you deal with all the extra bs

Instead of electric cutouts go with turbo exhaust waist gates. Install them in same location as the cutouts, run a boost reference line to have them open up at determined boost level. Will cost a little more and is a bit more complex but the sealing reliability and automated functionality should be worth it.

I'm pretty sure @Bad Company did this on his build. Maybe he can chime in here for you J. I'd like to do cutouts myself, as my current setup is obnoxiously loud, but I haven't seen one positive review on them.

What combo? How much power?
I actually really like the exhaust I have, just want to open it up at the track for power and performance. Several options exist, but honestly I like the simplicity of just opening the exhaust when I want. The low profile QTP should fit the plan. Hoping to hear from guys that have tried them.

Hey J

The turbo wastegates is an expensive way to go, but it works instantly as boost reaches the pressure set by the spring. I used Tail 60mm wastegates with 6 psi springs. You can get them with 3 psi springs also. The 3 psi spring would open almost anytime you started to squeeze the throttle. I also installed a Parker micro solenoid on a toggle switch to be able to close the boost signal to keep the wastegates from opening on the street. So far this has worked without a single problem. It gets very noisy when they open, but this car is noisy even when they're closed and under any boost at all so a little more noise isn't going to make a difference

Check out Doug's Headers cutouts. They are a wormgear motor, guilitine design. I've had mine on since April '18, no problems. They aren't cheap, but I went this route after reading all the negative reviews about QTP. These came with turndowns but I didn't want to chance it on a lowered car.
These have been functioned many times, no failures.
I liked the factory sound, just wanted more volume when I feel like it.
WOT is insane & sounds great. Uncorked 5.8!
