Need some info/lesson in what is out there and how to make it work and be cheaper. I do not watch much tv anymore, but my wife dose. She needs her dam shows, a list of channels she needs. cbs, nbc, fox, TLC, discovery, food network, bravo, usa.

Right now I have cable and a amazon stick that I get hulu basic. She dose not care about watching here shows when they air, the next day or couple days later is fine.

I'm not up on all this stuff anymore because I do not use it.

Any info would be great.

thanks

we ditched cable about 2 years ago. I was pretty hesitant and scared at first to be honest. I went and got a roku and never looked back and will never go back to cable. Our cable and internet bill was almost $200 a month. Roku has dozens of free movie and live TV apps. I added Hulu Live and get everything that I got on cable for a fraction of the cost. I also added netflix. I order things from Amazon all the time so I am always getting amazon prime video for free. You cant beat a roku. They are $35.00. Plug and play. It has a DVR service. It takes a few days to get used to how to navigate channels and such, but once you do, you'll never go back to cable.

Remember how when Blockbuster video came out and was all the rage, then came the digital age and Blockbuster is now a relic and thing of the past? I see Cable as the same thing. It was unheard of in my area in the 80s. Now, they have priced themselves into antiquation. There are so many more affordable options to cable that soon, cable will go the way of blockbuster. If cable companies were smart, they would see this coming, and do something about it. Like make their rates compete with Netflix and Hulu Live. Cable will be dead in a decade.

I've been using PlaystationVue for a couple of years now and we like it. They do seven day free trails so you can try it out first. Just install the app on your fire stick just like the Hulu app.

Haven't had cable for 2 years now - don't really miss it much. We have Netflix, Amazon, and Apple TV. Between all of those things and some apps, we're fine, and actually waste less time having the TV on.

I had this discussion with a guy at Best Buy recently. I asked him about possibly ditching DirecTV and he rattled off a number of solutions that he utilizes at home for himself. He has DVR capability and basically all the channels, and it was cheap. I was amazed.

I forget all the technical details, but my plan is to go back there and have him set me up when I finally do get fed up with DirecTV. Meanwhile, for you, I think it's worth going to one of those places and talking to a few of those folks. Some of them really know their stuff.

Roku downstairs and fire stick up. I prefer Roku hands down. DTV Now (AT&T Tv) works well but I find myself watching a lot of the legit apps like Tubi and Pluto TV not to mention other legit apps that require subscription through cable but allow much free programming even if you don't have a sub.

I’d get divorced if I dropped it. lol
Brad, my wife was initially upset when I dropped DirecTV, but now 6 months later, she's adjusted. Her viewing has changed from watching the Hallmark Channel (which we don't have on Hulu) to watching movies on Amazon Prime Video. And there are a ton of them. Reducing our cost from $240 to $55 a month was an incentive to try it and then adjust to it. I do understand that there are situations, though, where switching to a streaming service from cable or satellite just isn't a pleasant option.

Antenna, prime, and Netflix. Make them read a book or go outside if that isn't good enough.

I use a combo of Netflix($12), Hulu($1), Amazon prime, and Sling TV Orange and Blue($36). These 4 seem to cover all of my bases. Sling gives me ESPN/NFL Network/Redzone and all of the random white noise channels I need. Once the NFL season is over I'll go back down to just Sling Blue for $15. Hulu I got on a black Friday promotion for $1 a month for a year. That's up next month then I'm moving to Disney+ which will give me ESPN and Hulu for $13 so not a bad trade. I don't factor in the price for prime since the TV service is just a bonus for using their delivery service.

I have been considering this as well but I'm not sure about how it will affect my internet usage streaming everything that I watch. If I don't have cable\sat my internet provider does data usage like a cell phone plan but we don't watch a ton of TV by any means.

Find some info on automated HTPC setups and Usenet. Less than $10 a month will cover every show, sport, and movie available. OTA broadcasts are free so might as well get an antenna too. DuckDuckGo will get you all the information you need.

I think I'm going to make the move as my latest DTV bill almost doubled. I'm leaning toward Fubo TV. Seems to have all the channels I watch. Anyone ever use that service?

The new Disney subscription is going to be the best you can get

It's Hulu + ESPN Plus + Pixar + Disney etc

You get pretty much everything for I think 7-13 a month. When our cable is up, we are jumping to that on our Apple TV's. Save that money.

Wait so you can get Hulu + ESPN and those others for only $13 a month?

Ever since we cut cable, the only thing I've missed is watching sports. With the antenna we get limited sports coverage, I don't think I've seen a Monday night football game this season yet.

I assume a far inferior picture quality is one of the reasons streaming services are cheaper. I just started a free trial with Fubotv and the picture quality is very noticeably bad compared with my Directv. I tried Playstation Vue last year and same thing. Picture quality sucks.

Sling was good but even on a gb up and down I would get choppy cuts here and there but I lived with until I sat down and figured out what I watch, what day it is and just torrent and use a HD antenna for local sports
