My mailbox is the neighborhood dumping ground. Doesn't really bug me, as I'm not really accustomed to picking up dog shit either (mine just uses my yard)...but one lady was throwing a fresh bag in my emptied trash can every Friday. So I got to haul her poop into my garage sauna to let it baste for a week til the next pickup. After a couple weeks I'd had enough...simply threw it in the street where she'd walk by and find it the next morning.

Giving the poop back is extremely effective I have found.

We have cameras on our sidewalks. We had issues for a few months with people not picking up after their dogs. We started publicly shaming people on Nextdoor (video clips) and posting photos of the offending people's faces glued to stakes set next to the turds. That crap stopped pretty quickly.

A few people came back a day or two later to pick up their crap.

Like I said before, having a few neighbors dislike you is far better than someone escalating things and a pet winding up hurt over it.

i was going to say, since it is not just your neighbor doing it, i'd get a sign made and stick it somewhere by the mailbox so everyone can see it. We have a neighborhood facebook group, and i have Ring cameras. it's not hard for me to save the video of who is doing it and post it to our group.

I don't know how it is in your city but that's illegal in Denver.

This is fantastic!

Around here, people carry around plastic bags and pick up their dog's shit after it poops on someone's lawn.
Personally, I think that's ****ing disrespectful to let your dog shit on someone's property, but that's just me. ALMOST EVERYONE around here has a yard too. Let your dog do his/her business in your own yard, then take them out for a walk.
It's not the dog's fault, it's the owners that are being irresponsible. That's my opinion.

*****For the record, I am a HUGE dog lover. I think most dogs are better than most humans.
Now as long as people are picking it up, I couldn’t care less if the dog shits on my yard. I get it, sometimes when I used to walk my dogs the damn things would poop in the yard but as soon as we’re up the street by someone else’s house they have to go. I simply bag it and trash it at that point. Thankfully now I have a larger fenced property so it’s a moot point

I had this problem, could never catch the asshole who was letting their dog shit in my yard though.

I suspected my neighbors but it'd be hard to say since there's multiple dog owners that walk right in front of where I live and I never set my camera up facing the front.

I ended up going to dollar tree and getting a bunch of black pepper and cayenne pepper and sprinkled around where the dogs were doing their business and haven't had any problems after that, except for the times when I forget to sprinkle more black pepper on the lawn after a rain.

The bad side in me wanted to do something awful to these shit heads after stepping in dog shit for the 3rd time over the course of 2 months but I didn't do anything drastic as it wasn't the pups fault, more so the shitty owners fault.

I'm glad I don't live next to a lot of the folks in this thread....

OP: be a nice neighbor and ask the offender to pick up the poop. Most people are decent and will do the right thing. If they are not decent, then there are some reasonable 'escalated' suggestions in this thread.

I would talk to them man to man. After I got sufficient evidence that it was him and his dog.
I would however start out with the assumption that they have no respect for me or my property since they have proven it already. I would not ask, I would tell them that they need to stop leaving their dogs shit in my yard.
It doesn't hurt the dog, but you can spray your yard with very strong pepper spray periodically. Animals don't like it and will stay away.

Hey Tones, I try to not let my dog shit on another man’s lawn, but I do not have control when my guy decides to take a dump. He is not regular. He really does shit whenever. I do pick it up thought.

I get it guys.
I'm just saying, I don't like the idea of someone else's property shitting on my property that I pay taxes on. I understanding picking it up afterwards, but,........the problem is, once the dog gets a spot to shit and piss, then ALL the other dogs in the neighborhood want to shit and piss there as well.
It's just a "shitty" situation. :D :D :D  :p

And if they crap on grass you can never quite get it all up if it's a soft one because it sticks to your lawn.

1. Confront owner in a civilized manner, explain he needs to pick up his dog’s shit.

2. If owner still doesn’t pick up his dog’s shit then go shit in his yard.

If the op neighbor needs to asked to pick up the shit then he’s already displayed his worthiness to be approached about picking it up. He’s already a piece of work himself.
