I believe our T56 takes 4 quarts of ATF to replace correct? My first shift in the morning totally sucks.

With my Mach 1 Ford had revised the oil amount down after slow 2nd gear cold shifts (which worked well after the change by the way). Wanted to make sure there was no change on the amount of oil for the T56 for the Cobra.

Thanks.

Um.... if you look at the link you sent, it has more updated opinion. This is useful and what I was looking for. Like:

"it uses Mercon-V Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), which is an update from the original Mercon-III that is referenced on a label adhered to the transmission (and mentioned in the SVT Supplement). My choice, based on personal experience (as well as another conversation with a tech at Tremec) is Mobil1 ATF. ..."

I also used Mobil1 in the TR-3650 from my 03 Mach 1 and works great (along with the Ford revised lower amount of fluid).

Based on the info in the link, why would you ever point people to the older information of the supplement for this specific question? Just say here is the link with the updated opinions. The supplement guidance is 16 years old. I ask forums to get the "latest updates" (either by Ford or opinion). I still have the supplement and wasn't trying to be lazy.

I really was just asking if it was revised by Ford. Like on the TR-3650 for better cold behavior. My first shift in the morning is terrible on the Cobra. This was also the case on my 03 mach 1. Ford revised the fluid down on the TR-3650 and it is much better in the morning. Does not seem to the be the guidance with the T-56.

Thanks for the link.

Best mod I ever did to my T56 was dumping royal purple for good ol dexron III. It’s now sold under AC DELCO type 3 ATF. All the cold start shifting issues went away immediately. Mind you I use royal purple HPS motor oil. But the trans was designed for dexron III.

Because the quantity hasn’t changed - a simple internet search or call to Tremec would verify that. Only the fluid has been updated, which is easy to find out when you go buy it. If you also asked Tremec what exactly they recommend now, it’s also included in my link. Lots of info out there...

I love to get the best feedback from the best Terminator site on the web from other enthusiasts (no doubt this site). So it is odd to me that you seem to be pointing me to getting this information from just about anywhere except just asking it here??? Your answer with the link included is just what I wanted to see (along with any other feedback others have or may give). I think that is the point of the forum or at least it has been since I bought my Terminator in 03 (bought it on Labor Day actually) and joined this forum. I see you have been on around the same time.

Also you state:

"Because the quantity hasn’t changed" - that was exactly my question to the experts on this forum (from above "Wanted to make sure there was no change on the amount of oil for the T56 for the Cobra.") . Can't I just ask it???

I certainly do searches or watch videos (I still own 3 mustangs so lots to check on or continue to learn). At times call companies (but it is Sunday). But I like to think I should never be persuaded that this forum is no longer a place to just seek the best advice for my car. And I should just ask it (are you trying to convince me otherwise?)

Again, thanks for your link.

So I put in Mobil 1 full synth AFT last week and it drives soooooooooooooo much better. No more slow first to 2nd shift when cold either. I would say it feels better than the day I bought it new. Loving it.

Oddly I only put ~3.6 Qt and I double checked the car for level with a level (and looked even by eye sight). So I measured what came out and it was the same amount. So it is what it is.

Thanks for the feedback.
