Went to get some groceries out of my hatch today and WTF!

Just rolled 39K. The car had/has a 3 yr/36,000 mi basic, 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain warranty. Will Ford even care? I know Ford used the thinnest possible paint on the ST line, but this isn't an area where I could get rock chips or something.

I would look at getting that covered under corrosion warranty.

Your vehicle’s body sheet metal panels are covered for an extended Corrosion Coverage Period, which lasts for five years, regardless of miles driven. The extended warranty coverage only applies if a body sheet metal panel becomes perforated due to corrosion during normal use due to a manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials or factory workmanship. If aluminum body panels have corrosion or rust damage, and the damage is not the result of abnormal usage, vehicle accident, customer actions and/or extreme environmental conditions, the corrosion or rust damage repairs are covered for 5 years, unlimited miles. For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) where there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty − our policy is to provide free repair of paint damage due to the airborne material for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first

My 2016 GT PP car was magnetic. I noticed in the right light, you could see the primer/base coat/fiberglass coating through the paint.

I sold it two weeks later. In about 5 years all 15-17 Ford's will have their paint falling off. A la early 2000's again

Went to the dealer today. Told them the issue, he took pics, explained the procedure, got my mileage and sent me on my way. He then calls 30 minutes later and says "seems you're past your 36K mile warranty, so we can't help you."

I think he may have called from a cell phone as he seemed a little off the record. He explained I needed to call corporate and bitch to them, get a case number, and get that back to him.

I called corporate, and they just said "sorry, 36K miles." but I did get a case number.

Called back the dealer and got that to the man I talked with. We will see.

The dealer did do a tape test of sorts while I was there. Put some tape down next to the issue, pull it up and see what happens.

Here's the before taken 2 weeks ago:

Here's the after:

Here's what my manual says:

You’re probably not going to get anywhere with the dealer, and since it’s surface rust, not thru and thru rust, even less of a chance of corporate helping you.

Mask it off, touch it up yourself, and keep an eye on it

You will be lucky if you get it covered under warranty. Ford is getting ridiculous, when I was still working at a ford dealer the shop Forman had a brand new f150 and the paint on the roof was peeling. They didn’t cover that paint issue.

Whoa, I do paint correction and spray occasionally. I would be pissed if Ford brushed that off. That is shoddy and would have existed as an issue before the warranty expired, you just happened to see it now. They should cover that on the corrosion warranty.

I explained that over the phone to corporate. I told the person (I'm guessing they are not a car guy) that I understand a transmission is different. One person can drive a car and abuse/break a perfectly fine transmission in 1 day. This however is simply a case of poor prep/paint from the factory, in an area that is not exposed rock chips, bugs, or door dings, so nothing else has touched this area since I bought it, thus yes I just saw it recently, but it's been in the works since day 1.
