Damn I miss a truck so much. After having 5 F-series trucks = 3 Lightnings, F-250 scab, F150 scab and 2 Ranger scab's its been too long without a P/U. I will have another F150 again just not sure when and certainly before this old fart is dirt napping...lol.

Never realized how impactful it was to my psyche to not have a truck.

Traded my nightmare of an 18' F150 off last weekend. Put the wife/future baby mama into a brand new Civic to save gas/keep the future baby safe.

I decided to take her old car, a 2012 Elantra Limited, and drive it. It's paid for. Gets over 2x the mileage of the truck, and cut down on our monthly costs immensely (civic vs F150 payment, gas, insurance, etc). Simple savings at 40 in gas vs 150-200 (we drove the truck a lot on the weekends and out of town) a month.

The only issue is adjusting to life with a house/car hobby and no truck. I've done it once before (FoST and Cobra), but it will take some time. Just curious who does the same, and how they overcame it when a truck was absolutely required. I can borrow friends/families trucks, but I don't want to assume anything either.
Push comes to shove, if you NEED a truck, Uhaul rents pickps and I think its like $20 buck in town plus milleage.

That said I cant imagine you couldnt find a beater F-150 work truck 1997-2003 for very cheap. My dad has a 2002 F-150 CrewCab 4x2 5.4L. Had 187K on it when he bought in 2013 it and its got over 220,000 now. So far, since he has owned it he has needed the updated intake manifold, a few coils, a p/s pump, an automatic climate control module (found a rebuilt unit) and fluid maintenance. Oh yeah, we installed new front wheel bearings and brake rotors/pads when his front brakes wore out.

Been a SOLID truck for the house, has pulled a 6,000lb camper, got nearly 20mpg on a road trip from San Diego to Bay Area and back. Just a nice solid comfortable truck.

I do, but I question why. I don't own my house. I've never towed anything with it. I rarely haul anything.

I think the only reason I have it is for the 4x4, which I think is more effective than any AWD car, and the comfortable features.

Heck you don't have to own a house, tow or even 4x4 to have and enjoy a truck. You have the option to do those but even if you limited it to what a car is it is still crazy comfortable. It does everything a car can't do and everything a car can do. Some Trucks are HELLA fast...but anyone wanted to argue that aspect then get a car and a truck. Shame the OP had a bad experience and if he didn't need a truck I can understand that aspect and the cost savings.

Doing maintenance on my parents two vehicles since I was a teenager makes it nice when I need to move bigger stuff. My favorite is my dad's current mode of transportation a 2015 ecoboost transit 150

My truck feels like a spaceship luxury car. Its my first truck, but I've been amazed with the features. The adaptive cruise control, lane assist, automatic breaking make it so easy to drive. I basically just get on the highway and keep it between the lines.

I rode in a car for the first time after 3 months in the truck. It felt kind of weird. I don't think I will ever not own a truck again...you can consider me sold.

I've had a pick-up since I was 16 and always will. Absolutely love my 13 FX4 with the 3.5l. I have 33's on it and get between 17-19 on interstate. Don't care to get a new one with all the problems (recalls) they have. Actually like this body style better.

I think a truck is a must. I have a 15' 6.7 f-350 lariat. I have a 2 car gooseneck trailer I use about 3 times a year, a pontoon boat and my family has a 33ft camper I tow. Even if I never towed I probably would still own this truck. Just so nice to drive and look at.

No truck here, but I like fast, fun, well-handling cars. I will likely get a Wrangler someday.

Can you wrench? Pick up an old truck for hauling stuff. Buy the right one and you should have minimal problems if you dont drive it daily. I daily a small fuel efficient car, all the others are toys.

I love my truck. I was an SUV guy for a long time. But once my Expedition was totaled the wife and I had a talk about future goals. And since getting a toy hauler is in the plans having an SUV wasn't really an option. I did miss the Expedition for a while, but when I started throwing engines and rear ends in the back without a second thought I suddenly stopped missing it. And I do tow with it. So it's needed. I don't mind dailying it. It's pretty comfortable and you adjust to the size. You learn where to park at the malls and such.

Only two people have asked me to help move in the 5 years I've had it. But they're both good friends and they would have asked if I didn't have the truck. And I've loaned it to one of those two because he needed a truck once. I got to drive his Charger for a few days so I wasn't mad at it.

Yup, same for Turo. Just checked, I can get a mini van in the $25 a day range, and an actual pickup in the $35 a day range. Both are unlimited mileage. If I needed to go pick up something like a new hood for my car that was 90 miles away...that's what I would do.

I love my Lightning. It does everything well. Rides great, handles great, enough power to be fun and hauls lumber. What’s not to like.

Only cause everyone is getting older. In my 20s i loved DD my 89 5.0 mustang. With no A/C or heater. Lol. Boy things change as you get older
True, and are you calling me old? I should ban you. Lol
Well, I am. My 18 is so quite and smooth. The steering is the icing on the cake though. Oh yeah, cooling heated seats. Hell, not sure what all the buttons do yet after 13 months.

I'm w/o truck for a few years now but come spring I'm adding another vehicle. Car-wise I wanted either a Challenger with the Scat Pack or a MGT but then I saw a few trucks that were shockingly affordable with low miles. One was a 250 (2016) with the 6.7., another was a 17 or 18 so dodge tradesman with the diesel and the 6 speed and the last was a 2018 f150 sport with the 3.5. but I'm leary with the oil issues. Tough choices.
