Who here doesn't have a truck?

Never realized how impactful it was to my psyche to not have a truck.

Traded my nightmare of an 18' F150 off last weekend. Put the wife/future baby mama into a brand new Civic to save gas/keep the future baby safe.

I decided to take her old car, a 2012 Elantra Limited, and drive it. It's paid for. Gets over 2x the mileage of the truck, and cut down on our monthly costs immensely (civic vs F150 payment, gas, insurance, etc). Simple savings at 40 in gas vs 150-200 (we drove the truck a lot on the weekends and out of town) a month.

The only issue is adjusting to life with a house/car hobby and no truck. I've done it once before (FoST and Cobra), but it will take some time. Just curious who does the same, and how they overcame it when a truck was absolutely required. I can borrow friends/families trucks, but I don't want to assume anything either.

For a long time I only had my 2012 GT and I was working in maintenance, so I just loaded my tools into the trunk.

It wasn't too bad.

But with that said I think that's the only time I've ever not had a truck since I was 16. I usually have a few of them.

Interesting. I kind of had a feeling it would be both ways. I like and prefer to always have a truck handy, but the only times I can think of it being mandatory is a large load like an engine, 8ft sheet of plywood, 10ft 2x4's, something like that. Otherwise picking up cylinder heads, wheels and tires, mulch in bags, plants, etc, all of that I can shove into the beater

Always had one in the family growing up (6 yrs to moving out) and went without for about 5 years after we got married and hated it.

Wouldn’t go without again.

My wife's F150 makes life easier when we're constantly going to Home Creepo for lumber, fertilizer, etc. But we also deal with the typical "everyone who doesn't have a truck wants to borrow ours, or have us help them move." We don't let people borrow our vehicles, EVER.

Before she had the truck, she had a JKU (RIP) which was an absolute pain in the ass to load anything into. Taking garbage to the dump wasn't even easy with that stupid split rear tailgate (soft-top). Prior to that, she had a Jeep Patriot which was about as utilitarian as my old Explorer, decent but not the best.

When I lived alone, prior to getting married, I had just my little Volvo. I managed to move so much stuff in that car, it's amazing.

Fuel-economy wise, the truck doesn't get that bad of mileage compared to our other cars. My '18 GT gets the same fuel economy as my Volvo did.

Me. I'm in the minority here... probably one of the few white men in Alabama that doesn't have a Napoleon Complex.

I've never owned a truck. LOL I get cut off every day by huge lifted trucks that are so clean you can eat off of them. If you are going to use it for work, you shouldn't be working valet at the Mirage, you should be on the construction site at the Raiders stadium. LOL

Can't imagine being without a truck. I always have something in the back, tow a utility trailer and a car trailer.

Always had a truck and as a daily driver it got old. Cars ftw.

I've never owned a truck. I don't like driving them. I prefer a nice big comfortable sedan with some HP to commute in and maybe blow off some steam when it's clear. Plus I like being able to turn and brake quickly.

But, I own a house, and as much as I manage without a truck...I really could use one. Might have to buy my first.

I’m an SUV person now. I have an Explorer Sport which meets my need 90 percent of the time.

No truck here...and yes I own a home. When I didn't have a utility vehicle at all, the truck rental at home death spot was stupid easy and less than $30 for a couple of hours.

We now have a SUV as our third vehicle and a utility trailer to help out when needed. A truck wasn't a great fit for us due to space needed to park and the desire to have our items protected from weather (and thieves).

Yes you can live without a truck and get things done but owning one just makes everything so much simpler.
