Just what I always wanted, baked on diff oil on my polished exhaust! I read posts from other owners having the same problem and hoped I wouldn't but here it is. I was very careful to put the proper amount of oil in and not just fill it till it ran out the fill hole. This is 100% a design defect and and I'm not happy about it. Guess I'll be installing a catch can on my diff....lol!

Ford Racing. I purchased it through Maximum Motorsports because they machine it slightly to clear their aluminum diff mount.

Yup happened to me too. Don’t fill up till it runs out the hole. Shitty design on FRPP’s part.

I think it takes just a little less. I want to say I put in 1.1-1.15 quarts last time. Of course it's awesome having extra gear oil laying around used in only one of my vehicles.

Side note, has anyone tried to clean that stuff off? My cat back is currently out of the car and one of goals is to clean it before putting it back in the car.

I put in about 1.4-1.5 qts when I installed my FRPP cover, no issues. So it should only take a little over a quart like mentioned above when changing fluid

Hmm maybe I did put too much in, Amsoil site says 4.2 pints but after some research that appears to be for a SRA. I'll drain it out, and put 1.25-1.5q back in.

If it's really baked on then only 2 things will touch it: oven cleaner or sandpaper.

Most online charts are for the SRA. They don't know about the IRS I suppose. I'm pretty sure the Ford manual says 1.25 quarts give or take. I know I didn't put in that much last time.

It's got a few hundred miles of cooking on it. One of those things I kept putting off and now I'm kicking myself for it.

Just thought I'd post an update: after draining the diff and refilling with 1.25 quarts (including friction modifier) the diff has not puked out another drop of oil. I shoved a small plastic bottle onto the vent hose so I could see any leaked oil and there was none.

If you're up for the job, I would just wet sand it. My diff was leaking and stained a good section of my polished exhaust. Grabbed some sandpaper, a spray bottle with some dish soap and water and went to town. I just hit the area with the stains and got it done in a couple hours.

Make sure that bottle is vented so it doesn't build pressure when hot

I had to install a catch can with both the stock and frpp covers. I open track this car so it does see higher than normal temps

I did the oven cleaner trick and it cleaned everything off. A little polish afterwards and it was good.

Yeah it's vented. I was going to remove it after testing but decided to leave it "just in case". It's just a small 8oz bottle so it fits above the diff and won't hurt anything if it falls out.

Does the Ford Racing cover have a "USA" stamp on the bottom right when looking from the rear? Asking cause im trying to figure out whats on this car thats leaking diff fluid. Trying to see if its a leak or possible overflow. Thanks

Yes it does. There's also "Ford Performance" engraved across the middle. If you put more than 1.25 quarts in the diff it will probably push some fluid ou the vent. The cover seal and pinion seal are also common sources of leaks.

I installed the Ford Racing diff cover about 6 weeks ago and filled it as per the instructions. When I drove the car about 40 miles in the freeway rear diff fluid was dripping everywhere and it was coming out the vent, what a mess. I installed a temporary catch can made out of a plastic bottle and checked the bottle after a track weekend and there was no fluid in the bottle. Bottom line is the instructions are wrong and cause a over fill and fluid coming out of the vent. The Ford specs call for a fill level of 1/4 to 9/19 of a inch below the fill plug as per the Ford shop manual. I even questioned the instruction sheet when I filled it, but I thought they maybe changed the fill hole location on the new cover. Like always I learn the hard way!
