Funny story, so my Manager at Boeing wouldn't try to sway anyone's vote and only spoke for himself. He had been a Union guy forever and a day. While I was with him he was not because Unions were not in Boeing in Charleston. The union talked many of them into walking out one day...so he did. He later got the option to come back a significant pay decrease of GTFO. Hilarious. Wanna talk about dirty politics...can't even say that without saying Union. I'm sure you're just a little pee on down low in the ranks making more money and living in your little picture. There is a bigger picture....and it isn't pretty.

Oh I bet. Call it selfish, but as long as I make my money and have good benefits to support my family then I could care less what the big wigs are doing.

Promotions are given on a several factors. Biggest factor is credentials and certifications. My brothers company is currently looking for a supervisor. No one has the needed credentials for it so he is taking classes to get what he needs so he can get the job. That applies to any company, union or non union. Some unions may protect deadheads but most do not. I know many laid off union guys, they were laid off because they are lazy. You don't work or put in any effort then you're gone. Pay is the biggest reason join unions. Why would I want to work for $28 an hour when I can get $48 an hour and a pension doing the same exact job? no brainer to me.

My GED is definitely what got me into management. Man those credentials and certifications I don’t have helped me so much

If you have to belong to a Union to work where you work, maybe you shouldn't be working there in the first place. Nothing says I love my job and company like belonging to a Union...haha.

I just read an article about how our county commissioners are wanting to pay students to go to school and enter the apprenticeship program at our community college. They will be given $50k a year to learn a skill or trade. I am not sure if businesses will be paying for this or tax payers. The program is called learn as you earn. When I was going to school it was called have a job while going to school, what in the hell is going on these days.
If the tax payers pay for this,.......I'd tell the county commissioners, go get ****ED!!!

Yeah, my last Military command encompassed a few groups of people. Mineshop..Me..Marines..small group...and some Civilians. Some were Union and some were not. It was a constant fight between them I tell ya. I always conducted the CMEO survey and I see all the bitching. That's Command Managed Equal Opportunity btw. I hated working with them, it's a different vibe altogether than dealing with other Military people. Most were old and lazy as hell. All they cared about were their breaks and always in a hurry to get to it and never in a hurry to get back to work. Meh

I started doing labor, but found a way to move up. I’ve done many things in my life, from heavy equipment to driving a truck for close to 2 million miles. Never been union. I do ok now.
I give any long haul trucker props. I have my class a and would never even consider long haul driving.

Scary thing, I was never OTR. We just drove that much hauling petroleum products. Illegal as hell in today’s world. I dropped mine this year when I went to renew my license. I wanted to keep it, but they demanded a med card. I said, **** it. Had it 42 years.

My thoughts exactly. They already have certain programs that colleges have for kids that want to get into the automotive industry. The college and dealerships collaborate to get them educated and hands on training, it’s called the Asset program. They go to school and when on when they are released for break they work at the dealer as an apprentice getting paid hourly. I hope that this doesn’t pass.

I live in the county referenced in the OP’s article, and sent one of my kids to the community college in question.

They will never get this BS passed, and if they do, I’m moving one county over. It’s ridiculous. They’ve got waiting lists now to get in the programs they mentioned.

Down here the non union plants are better than the union plants. Almost all of them.
I know 1 union plant where the hourly rate is a little better but the rest of the benefits are worse.
In my 22 years of experience, Unions suck.

I've heard that, we have a union plant in Lake Charles.
