Guys,

The convertibles seem to run much hotter in the summer then other cars. What do you guys do outside of tinting windows to keep these cars cool?
My wife refuses to ride the car because of how hot it gets on the inside, even with the A/C blasting

Thank you!

With top down - Windstop is amazing at keeping the cabin calm while driving.

I never really had any issues with summer driving my Cobra, but I do have tinted windows and mostly park in a garage. The other obvious is using Windshield sun shades when you do park in the sun.

With the top up? Or top down? If I have the top up the A/C keeps my car plenty cool even in the 90's. But if you have the top down you are not going to really keep the cold air in the car. Then again for me top down/windows up is just NOT allowed! So it is either take the heat or put the top up and crank on the A/C.

Quality ceramic tint makes a nice difference. I have had my last 3 vehicles tinted with ceramic. whats good about ceramic is that it reflects way more heat that normal tint at a much lighter shade. And the shops that install ceramic are usually much more detailed installer since the cost of ceramic is higher.

The darker the ceramic tint the better it'll reflect the heat correct?

Example, 5% tint should reflect more heat than 20% right? I've only had experience with 5% tint and I was contemplating getting 20% on the GT5 this time so it isn't so hard to see at night but if the 5% reflects way more than 20% I'm going with 5% because OP is right, these vert's get hot as fack lol.

not really. The VLT is how much light is transmitted through it i.e. how dark it is. That has no direct bearing on the amount of heat it reflects.

A vehicle with 20% tint will not be any noticeably hotter than the same vehicle with 5%

I used to be big on dark tint in my youth. These days I'm all for keeping it legal.

You don't need to go with dark tint if your using ceramic. I have Llumar CTX Ceramic 30 on the front windows. according to LLumar specs, this tint rejects 49% of solar energy. For comparison the CTX 5 rejects 60% solar energy.

To me the CTX 30 is perfect since its not dark to the point that LEO will ticket for tinted windows. I have had cars in the past with limo tint and the Llumar ceramic rejects more heat.

Out of the three cars we own, the Cobra (convertible) actually has the coldest AC. And we just completely redid the AC on one of the other cars.

When parked during work I put the reflective window shade up and with the tinted windows the car stays relatively cool.

I don't see a lot of problems really.

With the top down on a hot day....its going to be hot inside of the car.

yea, I daily drive my 03 when I had it through several texas summers in 100+ degree heat in traffic every day. (some over 110) Car took a few minutes to cool down in that heat just as any other car would but it did still get pretty dam cold. the only thing i noticed in the convertible is that it didn't hold in the colder air as well as a coupe and I needed to keep it on med-high to full blast to keep it staying cool. Sounds like something might be up with the ac
