With Gen 3 you get a lighter motor (no sleeves), dual injection, factory "ported" gt350 heads, stronger block than gen 1-2, more compression (12:1), and 12mm studs vs. 11mm in Gen 2.

Gen 3 is the future. There are guys who have made 500whp spinning to 8k rpm with easy bolt ons. They make power so easy its ridiculous.

Someone said the coyote has "no top end" and i laughed out loud. What an idiotic statement that is.

I agree with all of this.

Pick your poison.

No top end? More like all top end!
And yes the Gen 3 is best but not sure there’s a Gen 3 controls pack?

If it's the post I think it is that you're referring to I think he meant that the top end (the heads and valve train) would fail. Though I'm not sure how. I don't have any experience with the Coyotes so I don't know the weak points very well.

Gen 3 Crate eng, MT and Control package 15k

Same package Gen 2 13k
I’m adding boost and got a great deal on a Mustang Gen2 longblock with billet OPGs.
Otherwise the Gen 3 for $2k more is a no brainer.
8000rpm 12:1 and bolt on 500rwhp easy on the road course would be a sweet setup.

Anyone with clutch recommendations. I may be keeping my low mile T45 and updating clutch and lighten flywheel for the build. HPDE car no racing but lots of hot laps on road courses. When and if the T45 goes I'll likely go the modern six speed.

Just learned that the control pack for coyote swap project from Ford Performance doesnt include obd2 port CA smog. Two downstream O2 sensors not four needed for cats in CA

Super bummed.

A lot of times those control packs are made for guys building hotrods that want the newer drivetrain. So smog usually isn't a concern.

Well, thank you all for comments and suggestions.

My 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra will be receiving a 2018 Gen 3 and T-82 package this summer.

Stay tuned for development on swap. Goal is to have her done September sometime.

Here we go.

Shout out to MidWayMustang

Taylor and team are shipping a 2018 (2,800 mile) Ford Mustang GT complete takeout package Friday. Pallet to be shrink wrapped and is complete from radiator to driveshaft. Great guy and excellent service. Extremely knowledgeable.

BIGHATRACING (follow us on FaceBook) has chosen JEGS as our lead supplier for the build. Follow us along as the CA legal 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra R Clone project gets a 2018 Gen 3 transplant.

Given we are in CA we are going the takeout route as we will be subject to all CARB rules.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Sorry I'm late to the party here.. I just saw this thread. Lots of good info, and a lot of missleading/missinformed Coyote information (specifically the broad strokes about them lacking durability/dependability, they are a very durable engine). As for the Control Pack for Gen3, there is a gentleman on a bunch of Facebook forums that is doing some amazing wiring on the Gen1 through Gen3 engines, and the 10R80 trans as well if anyone wants to go with the 10 speed trans. Look him up, his name is Brian Tyler Brown, and his company is My-Ty Motorsports. He will probably be 1/3 of the cost of the Ford Racing Control Pack.

Additionally, the idea of running your T45 behind a Gen 3 Coyote (or any Gen Coyote for that matter) is straight crazy. You spend all of that precious dough on the engine, you will want to step up to at least a TKO600, but preferably a T56 Magnum, the first time you hit 3rd hard in the T45, it will break. You can run a T56 from the 03/04 Cobra cars, but it will need an input shaft upgrade at least, and a few other things. The T56 Magnums are good past 700hp/tq. The TKO will hold up to the power just fine, but can give you struggles when shifting above 6500. Some folks have had good experience shifting them above that, but a number of people have experienced hard shifts if modifications aren't made. Hope that helps. I've swapped Coyotes into Fox Body's, and now a Classic Mustang, and will be doing more in the future.... its a great engine, you will love it!

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm going to run the MT82 for road race/track days. No speed shifting and I like the gearing. I have a T56 as a backup.

I ran PBH brackets in my Fox Body, and they work well, but were expensive. In the 1967 Mustang that we're installing the Coyote in, we are opting for the Volvo electric PS pump, and we have it all mounted. You want to get the ones that have the reservoir built onto the top of the pump. Ours was from an 09 C60 I think, but they came in a number of the Volvo's from 2006 to 2011 I think. Most people have just hooked up the main plug, so you have power steering whenever the key is on. A few people say they have got the speed-sensor input working, so that you get progressively stiffer steering with speed, but I have only heard stories. Most that I have seen working didn't bother with the speed sensitive portion of the install.

Our isn't running yet, but some have said the pumps can be loud, but I am thinking they can't be louder than the typical exhaust.

Do you know if by running the Volvo pump the coyote will fit (SN95) negating the need for PBTH bracket kit for alt and ac?

Yea, because then the alternator can stay in the same spot. The reason for running the PBH brackets, is if you need to mount the PS pump close to its factory location, which moves the alternator over to the pass side of the engine, backwards, with the pulley facing the timing cover. There should be room for the alternator in its stock location in a new edge, but I haven't actually done it myself to verify.

Found a volvo c40 pump with electrical connector for 150.00 ebay

I figure its worth a shot as PBTH is 750.00 or so.

Anyone remote mount pump in trunk?
