Hi all, I know the oil debate has been going on since Jesus was a lad.
Im in Australia and the temperature gets up to sometimes 40 degrees centigrade in the summer months and that's in the shade. Im in Sydney and the heat in summer and months either side are hot and long.
I have been using Royal Purple HPS 5W30 for a year now. Was told by a mechanic who has been in the industry for 40 years its the best oil. More high level of zinc/phosphorus is the key he states.
What are your opinions as if RP is good my engine in the constant high temps here in Oz. I did use Mobil 1 5W30 for a while. Has a 165,000kms on her now and still running strong.
2. When changing to different brand oils should a oil flush be used?
3. Oil filters - Same as oil brand or generic Motorcraft/Ford ones?
Some oils and filters are not always available here in Australia.
4. Mobil 1 ESP fully synthetic 5w30? Thoughts

Apologies for most likely going over old ground.
Thanks fellas

Oil... lots of different opinions! Use whatever oil and filter you like that is available in Australia. Your engine will be fine.

On a side note, that is a cool-ass car! Rare too!

I agree with Goose. Use whatever you want.
Nice car. I know someone who’d love to have that front bumper for his 2V.

I think changing the oil is more important than the type really. As long as it's a decent oil and a quality filter. I've used Walmart brand in the past with no issue. Personally I think Royal Purple isn't worth the money. I've ran it in the past and the only thing I felt was a lighter wallet. Even in my built engine I ran Motorcraft oil and filter.

Mine has held up well on
Castro Gtx 5/20 and stp oil treatment

It’s more just keeping up with it.

I also feel stay with one type and let the product do it’s job

I agree with Goose, and with this post. Steve, you'll be just fine choosing any decent oil and a quality filter. If you're really concerned, change the oil and filter more frequently.

OMG, Steve, your '02 Cobra is gorgeous. I really like the color. Looks very well cared for, too.

I wonder how we all would do shifting with left hand.

Let alone feel like a normal passenger sitting on that side.

I have only seen the yellow 02

I like your color

Maybe some more pics. Of inside car

I lived in Japan for a few years and would come back to the States for training periodically. I got in and sat down on the wrong side of the car more than once. If anyone was looking, you’d have to rummage through the glove box looking like you were searching for something to keep from looking like a goof! :D

I rode shotgun a few times when I was overseas. I remember freaking out more than once when making the turns.

Yes! Intersections required attention/planning... “I’m in this lane, I’m going to turn in that direction and go into THAT lane!” If your mind wandered into daydream mode, you quickly found yourself with head-on traffic!

Thanks all. Previous owner had all the seats redone like the 2003/4 Cobras. Black leather inserts. I have a complete set of front and rear bumpers with side skirts and scoops. All fog lights too. All True Blue colour to match mine. Was so lucky to get them. Will put up some pics as requested soon.

your mechanic is spot in zinc is the secret sauce keep it 5w20 but no more than 5w30

On the $100,000+ race engines we build we use synthetic with 1 quart of joe gibbs driven break in oil that has high zinc.

High zinc is only good for break in after that the zinc level has to be around 1200 or so for longevity. I highly recommend keeping on with what you have.

As far as oil filters YOU CAN USE ONLY MOTORCRAFT OIL FILTERS. Using any other filter will cause engine damage. That's a very common problem on the aluminum 4v with broken tensioners and the 3v with bad phasers since people use the wrong oil filter.
