They’re great engines other than the HPOP, FICM, heads, head bolts, injectors, turbo, oil cooler, and EGR.

You can buy two 6.0's for the price of a 7.3 which imo is an overrated school bus engine. We had an '04 & an '07. The '07 ate injectors and both needed their head gaskets replaced. But they are cheap and correct me if I'm wrong but you can buy a 6.0 long block for $6k.
FYI we replaced the '04 with a '15 Scorpion and ended up having to do a full delete and tune. It now rolls TF out with zero issues. When we replaced the '07 we bought '18 Cummins 3500 which has had zero issues and will pull a battleship but is kind of slow.

The only thing that sucks about buying an already bulletproofed 6.0 is wondering if it was done before or after the problem. Did they sneeze the headgaskets out, run it for awhile then fix it? That’s how I look at it anyways.
But then again I get the crooked head look every time I tell someone I bought a 6.4.

Weirdly enough, our local diesel shop owner said his favorite engine for any of the trucks is a bullet proofed 6.0.

I found that interesting.

Godzilla is really going to hurt the market for older Ford diesels.

My only concern with Godzilla is overall fuel economy. Ive certainly speculated my fair share about it, and I think being paired with the 10spd may actually help it when using as a daily. I hope so because its not even funny how much simpler the 7.3 Godzilla will be compared to the 6.7 Powerstroke.

If/when I make the switch from the Excursion to the Super Duty, I have to gain MPG. Shouldn't be that hard to do considering Im running the V10. I will say though that the V10 has been a heck of a smooth running engine. Even survived the drive belt snapping from a failed tensioner in bumper to bumper traffic here in AZ few months ago.

I have thought and looked into the idea of swapping the V10 for a Cummins, but its too damn much to go from a V10 gas to diesel let alone an engine not even offered in the sub F550 and under trucks.

The idea of the 6.0 is that even though it had a problematic start to its life, it seems to have come along nicely. Plus, Ive read in many places that the 5 speed behind the 6.0 was a pretty stout transmisison.

I looked up bulletproofdiesel.com (AZ company). Looks like I can get the power-side Bulletproof FICM board for about 200 bucks. I found a place that sells reman 6.0 injectors for about $900 and HPOPs for about $800 bucks.

Refurbing the factory 6.0 Turbocharger doesnt seem too hard, and the swash plate for the variable vane section is a service part.

I have an 07. Bought it with 195k and has 225k now. Did the oil cooler, egr delete, coolant filter setup, standpipe and dummy plugs as soon as I bought it. Also bought a CTS Edge to monitor everything. Change the oil every 5k with Rotella T6 and fuel filters every 10k.

Towed my car 500 miles each way several times and a big camper 1000 miles. No issues. Love the truck. Even if you spend some money on it here and there, it beats a truck payment.

The 6.0 was groundbreaking. Too bad it had so many issues. It was a learning curve for all three brands, Ford, Chevy and Ram. I am a Cummins guy myself. I have owned two 5.9's and two 6.7's with zero issues. You should consider the Cummins as an option.

The money you save up front on the gas, not to mention the on going maintenance costs, will pay for a lot of gas. Plus 87 is cheaper than #2.

You do not buy an 8k pound truck , and expect to get good fuel mileage.
Maintenance on a diesel is twice that of my V 10, I still have reasonable torque , still get to the top of the hill , just not at 70 with 15,000 in tow .
I bought my 99 super cab short bed 4x4 , 6 inch lift on 36 's , with 135k miles .
That was 6 or so years ago , and I am currently at 250k .
I have replace brakes twice , a Set of spark plugs , and the a/c compressor .
Just maintenance , oil , filters , tires .
Market value today is actually at or more than I paid for it.

Hopefully you’ve geared it.

That motor is not torquey whatsoever and needs to be revved to move a load. Definitely no 70mph with a 15k load. 35-40 mph up the hills on a damn good day lol.

I’ve had plenty of great gas towers and the v10 wasn’t one of them..... would much rather have a 96+ vortec 454 with a tune ...

Any equivalent truck gas motor is going to have to run much more RPM than a diesel to do the same work, but that's what they are made for so it isn't a problem.

4:30 gears and i have a manual .
V10 will sing all day long at hi rpms, and still perform very well .
Do you ever think to yourself ,I wounder why all those motor homes come with that sly V10 ?
Probably because they are reliable and get the job done .

Huh..

Youre only the second guy I have ever heard who likes that old big block. Even my chevy buddy thinks it's garbage.
