I've been off these forums for a while and came back to look at unleashed oil thread to see if there are any changes in recommended oil. For some reason I can't seem to find it and all links to it seem broken. I started running amsoil 0W40 because of the thread the past few years and started wondering if I should change it up.

Amsoil now makes a 5w50.
I run Mobil Euro 0w40 in my built 5.8.
I’d recommend $20 UOA (used oil analysis) every change. I do 2/year.

0w40 is pretty damn thin IMO. Really depends on your climate though hot or cold. For brand....Amsoil or Mobil 1 is gonna be the best hands down

Well I’m changing the oil this weekend and after the beating I gave her last weekend, I’m very interested in that UOA.
I’m sure you know but the 0 is just the cold flow, the 40 weight is at operating temp.
Fords 5w50 breaks down to a 40w after a short time and the Euro Mobil 1 0w40 had some of the best performance in boosted apps from my research.
I’m probably due to see if there’s newer data but if the UOA continue to return well, no need to change.

I know over the years the Ford motor clearances get tighter and tighter BUT ....I don't know if I would trust a 0 rating. I think MOST Ford motors state 5w. On start up you want good oil pressure with easy flow. IDK I just dont trust a 0 in a Ford motor lol.

I use manufacturer recommendation weight in Amsoil.

A few years back my Mustang Race Shop recommended 10W-40 Royal Purple for my 2013. They said they used that oil in all the late model Mustangs. I was a Big Fan of Royal Purple for many years. I bought a case of RP but just could not bring myself to use it....Dopey Me....that stuff is not cheap! Perhaps I'll use it someday.

As stated the "0W" is cold flow rating. You have to consider that Ford sells cars that operate in drastically different climates, +110F in southern states to -20F in norther states. So the Ford official recommended oil weight to use has to reflect this broad operating conditions.

I think Dodge calls for 0W-40 in the Vipers?

I run 15W-50 in mine though.

Like @biminiLX, I've also used Amsoil SS 0W-40 and Amsoil EaO11 oil filters for years. UOAs going back to the beginning are all good - no sign of abnormal wear and actually indicate I could comfortably increase my (annual / ~4K mile) change interval.

My oil pressure gauge shows ~85 PSI on cold start. Lowest idling pressure when hot is ~25 PSI. Both are right in-line with what I'd expect and most others' observations I've read.
