This is a continuation of the discussion seen here in this thread in the Terminator forum

https://www.svtperformance.com/threads/installing-ats-brembos-on-the-cobra.1175014/

I took a different path in trying to mount these calipers without modifying the SN95 spindle. To bring everyone up to speed that is not familiar with this mod, the Cadillac ATS (not the ATS-V) features a 4-piston Brembo caliper mounted on an 11.6" rotor. WIth some slight mods, it can be made to fit the Mustang. Read the above thread to see what these mods are

There were a few mods I wasn't willing to do to my car. #1 was slot the spindle. I had some concerns with how this was done, as well as preventing me from changing my calipers out in the future if I decided to get, say. Baer 6S calipers. SO I wanted to avoid that.

One feature on the ATS caliper was that the threaded mounting bushing was a separate entity from the caliper pressed into the body. The GM calipers are a 128mm bolt spacing with an M14 bolt. The SN95 uses 130mm spacing and M12 bolts

They tap out rather easily. Insert an M14 bolt and tap from the backside and they pop right out.

Using Solidworks, I modeled up an insert with the appropriate M12 threaded hole and offset, and machined up a set of 4

Using a press, I pressed them into the caliper, and now, the caliper is a 100% bolt up modification.

You can see the offset M12 threaded hole clears the hole in the caliper body nicely.

Same thing I did although i went a little further and moved the caliper in towards the rotor so the pad contacts the rotor correctly. I added the set screw to ensure they never move. Have close to 2000 miles on them so far.

SO, what's next. There are still a few modifications needed that i'm trying to work around.

#1, the caliper offset. Approx 0.075" needs to be machined off the face of the mounting flange where the caliper bolts to the spindle to help center it on the 13.1" Cobra rotor. I have not done this yet because there are a few rotors i'd like to try out first to see if this can be avoided, but to mostly avoid #2

#2. The ATS uses 11.6" rotors. The pad contour doesn't exactly match the larger 13.1" cobra, so there's a bit of pad overhang on the top. This is shaved off, but I want to avoid that. So there are a few rotors to try out here. See below.

I did a test fit with the Corvette Z51 13.4" rotor. I had an old hub that I pounded the lugs out. I then mounted the rotor and caliper. It barely makes contact. It's probably .1-.2" too large in diameter to work here (in addition to wrong lug pattern). However, it appear the top area of the pad would contact the rotor fully, but the bottom edge would not be in full contact.

Other rotors to try. The '11-'14 base Mustang GT rotor. It's 13.2" in diameter.

That's actually a great idea. Did you clearance the hole in the caliper body as well, or did the offset, and relocation inward put the threaded portion inside the hole on the Al body as well?

I like the idea of a set screw as well.

Just some visuals of some of the challenges.

Rotor alignment. I believe the number thrown around was to shave 0.070” off the mounting face of the Caliper flange to center the rotor in the groove.

And Caliper distance from center of rotation. You can see how much the pad overhangs.

Finally, I test fit some 17x8 wheels I had. None fit. The Caliper contacted the barrel of the rim preventing it from mounting properly.

Plenty of clearance to the spokes, but It appears that 18” wheels are required unless the Caliper can be pulled in a tad.

Same result with 97 cobra, 98 cobra and bullitt wheels

Going to have to, but that will require Rev B to the inserts to allow for it to come inward slightly.

Before I do that, I want to test fit an '11-14" 13.2" rotor.

I 3D printed my inserts before I sent them to machine shop :) I’m using 2mm shim behind the cobra rotor since I couldn’t find the perfect rotor. That and most people already have cobra rotors (heck they are only like $40 on rockauto now)

I drew them and had local machine shop water jet them out for the batch of these kits I’m having made. If you need some made let me know
