He sounds like a boot. Make him buy a cheap reliable beater instead and SAVE. Biggest mistake we all make as boots is blowing our money on cars!

An SVT Focus would be the same type of car and far cheaper. JMO

At least hes not getting the 40K+ Charger starter pack at 17% interest lol... I don't think that a $17,000 vehicle is outlandish even on the low paygrade scales. Talking like $250/mo or so, cheap insurance, and having a little fun while doing so. Gotta balance fun and responsibility!

To the OP, I had a FiST for about 2yrs. To this day one of the most fun vehicles I've owned, wife still breaks my balls about wanting another "clown car" LOL. I had an intake (waste of time unless you like the noise it makes), catless DP/stock catback, ATP intercooler, and tune. Car was a solid shit away from running 13's and handled AMAZING, all while getting 27-29mpg.

I see your point but for 17k he is getting a brand new car with nearly a full warranty and his payment only goes slightly up. He will actually be paying slightly less per month though as his insurance went down from the v6 stang.

And as he keeps telling me, he picks up lance cpl on the first...haha.

Have owned both an SVT Focus and my current FiST. The FiST blows the SVT away in terms of power, handling, and shifter. The only thing that's gone wrong is the blend door actuator. I just left it alone. Makes a click noise on start up, but it's done it so long I don't even notice it anymore. Ford used a cheap shit part that has failed again after replacement by other owners.

Easy fix and a $20 part. It is probably easier with the driver seat removed....

All fair! I just didn't see anyone else advising this young Marine against it. I still strongly suggest he get a beater and save every penny, but it isn't the worst decision I've seen boots make. (my profile pic is my first 03 Cobra that I bought at 19 as an E3)

No shit, they're 20 years apart and the FiST is much more purpose built. Still, same category and very comparable I'd think.

Anyways, hope he enjoys it! I'd love to spend some time in one and see what all the buzz is about, I've heard nothing but great things about them.

deal is done gang...he's driving the stang up today and we will do the swap tomorrow. He's gonna fly back down to base Monday and leave his FiST here until he comes home on leave in a few weeks. At that time I will finish teaching him how to drive stick shift AND I will get his windows tinted and do the tune for him while I have it here the next few weeks.

so my question is, will I be reaching for the keys of the FiST over my AMG GTS and E63 AMG????

Not really comparable. The SVT was way underpowered and shifted like a wet noodle. Its prob because they are twenty years apart. The SVT should have been turbo.
