I'm regularly blown away with how good of a car it is. My Chevy buddy had a 14, then a 6th gen SS camaro and a 996 C2S and still maintains it's the most fun car he ever owned.

My wife has one and we use it for everything.

It's a little small for 4 adults, but we have made a ton of costco trips in it. With her track wheels and tires she gets 38 mpg hand calculated.

It was also faster than my GT350 at autocross when we had instructors driving both of them. The dude who was driving my car was ranked 2nd in the US at the time too, so I feel like he was pretty quick.

Also, a set of wheels and tires cost a grand on that car. For similar rubber/wheels on the GT350 I would have paid 3x that amount.

I can't say enough good about it.

What are your thoughts on the Cobb stage 1 (BOV, air filter, tune)

How much power do these cars gain from that type of kit?

I would piece the kit together instead of buying their kit. Its cheaper. If youre warranty conscious id stick to being stock for the warranty period and spend the money on autocrossing the car. In factory form the Fiesta ST absolutely dominates the H-street class.

Stock class build that will keep your warranty:
Koni Sport dampers front and rear
16x7" wheels w/ 205/45R16 Bridgestone RE71r's
Eibach rear sway bar

The stage kits and any tuning put you out of stock class. So once they are installed he is going straight to STH which is hell for a Fiesta ST.

My suggestions for a stage 2 kit by piece-meal if he must go that route:
~Whoosh Motorsport front mount v2 - stock location front mount, good through a hybrid/big turbo setup. No need to go larger unless youre going to absolute max power.
~K&N/Cobb/Green/ITG - drop in filter. No power increase. Just easier than the $30 factory filter that needs to be changed every 12k miles. I run the K&N and have never had an issue.
~Cobb Access Port V3 with a 93/E30 tune - i personally run Dizzy Tunings 93/E30 tunes and they have been exceptional.
~Whoosh Motorsports rear motor mount or CP-e rear motor mount(if he can afford it). The CP-e is the best mount ive used but its significantly more expensive. It uses an EPDM bushing instead of the poly bushings of others. Mine has been going strong for a LONG time versus the poly versions ive tried which oblong after a while.
~Go Fast Bits Diverter valve upgrade. I run the original recirculating one but they did introduce one for the "BOV" crowd that does vent to atmosphere and cause the "whoosh" sound the kids love at each shift. I like the subtle version better as the loud "whoosh" noise tends to get annoying with the short 1-2 gear ratios of the IB6 gearbox.

The rest of the bolt on parts are malarky. Quite a few tuners have done the datalogs and it shows the expensive bolt ons are not worth the money. Youre better off saving the money and going big turbo kit. The parts above on E30 is the max power you will get out of a stock turbo Fiesta ST and is somewhere in the 220whp range and nearly 300wtq. It will blow the tires off in 1st, 2nd and into 3rd if not on sticky rubber.

I built mine from daily driver, going 100miles each way to work, to now a track toy/weekend fun toy/autcross car.

If you have any other questions let me know. Here is mine for some inspiration. They were taken at a local autocross club event a few weeks ago.

On the topic of the Recaros - IMO, until the GT350 the FiST Recaros were the best seats ever fitted to a Ford.

BLASPHEMY! Boss 302, Focus SVT, Cobra R?!?

The Recaros in the Fiesta are very nice but you must be joking. I still say the Boss 302 Recaros are the single most comfortable seat ive ever sat my fatass into in any single Ford product. The SVT Focus Recaros were exceptionally good too. Cobra R were a close 3rd but that was due to the seat belts in the car more than the seats.

Although i agree most bolt ons are cosmetic, i made 20 more HP with a catless downpipe on my e30 tuned FoST with no other changes. On the same dyno, same day about 1.5 hours separated. This was with the e30 tune and a big FMIC, which is really the first two things that need done.

DHM, Dizzy and one guy from Texas(cant remember the name, maybe Adam?) found the OE downpipe on a Fiesta ST was the best option on the stock turbo. Mishimoto tested it and found the same but some of their results were garbage on other testing so people throw it out the window.

Cobb even states the only reason they require a downpipe on Stage 3 is the catalyst temp threshold in the ECU programming. Cobb requires a certain level of OEM parameters to be kept to "certify" their OTS tunes and to certify the Stage 3 Fiesta tune it was a requirement to recommend a high flow catalyst pipe.

E30/tune and a front mount are the biggest things for the Fiesta ST on the stock turbo. After that a larger turbocharger is needed.

Gotcha. Maybe the FiST just has a better DP than the FoST.

Its more the size of the turbo versus the size of the exhaust on the Fiesta ST. The turbo is nearly maxed out in stock form and the exhaust is surprisingly quite capable from the factory.

On the FoST i have no clue.

The DP of the FoST necks down to 1/2 the diameter of the turbo output flange and then makes a sharp 90* turn within 2 inches of where it connects to the turbo. Just looking at it, you can tell that flow is significantly reduced even before hitting the catalytic converter. It is a really stupid design.

Space restrictions? I havent had the pleasure of tackling one of those yet.

I have a 2015 FiST that is my DD and I like it but I think I need to do some basic mods for me to really love it. I love the handling and the character of it but I just miss having a faster car. I dont think I will be getting rid of it soon because it is a great DD so I will throw on some bolt ons in time and I'm sure I will really enjoy it then. They are great little cars though.

Thanks for everything gang! The deal is DONE! He's driving the stang home for his 96 this weekend and we will do the deal Saturday.

72 month loan instead of the 84 and he has full warranty left on the car basically.

I read through but didn't see the answer...does the Cobb stage 1 (BOV, filter, tune) add good power? that's all he really wants at this point...he will be rowing gears so it will feel faster...lol.

Thanks again for all this info. This forum rocks for stuff like this!!!

Cobb OTS tune is the quickest, easiest update. There are better tuners (Dizzy), and an bigger IC will help too. Don’t bother with exhaust, it adds nothing but sound. That is until bigger turbo happens. Good luck, and tell your boy to go easy on he clutch.

I think it comes down to frame. Those, other than the Focus Euro, were not as aggressive as the FiST. A down grade for the Euro is being leather, they just aren't as grippy as the semi-cloth FiST seats.

What kinda power increase does the stage 1 cobb give? Crank HP...so from 200 to 250? 225? There website didn't say.

I honestly don't know, but the tune really wakes up the car. The stock turbo is very responsive at relatively low rpm, but runs out of steam around 5K RPM. Guys with a decent hybrid turbo and tune will put close to 300WHP down on pump gas.

In stock configuration a minivan can out run a FiST, but it doesn't feel like it when your driving one. That is one of the things which make the car so engaging is the nimbleness, and sense of speed (where there really isn't much).

Yes, I totally get it. When I drove the one he is buying I thought it was plenty fast and then I read online they run 15.0 in the 1/4 mile...haha. So much fun and feels so much faster than that.

One thing I have to say I appreciate is how cheap parts are for it. I was looking through the Whoosh website and was blown away at the prices. You could build a 300+whp car for probably $3k.

Mountune called it the MP215 kit. So 215hp at the crank and was equal to the Cobb Stage 1.

Mountune MP230 is the 230hp kit and is equal to Stage 2/3 through Cobb. It includes the high flow downpipe but have heard the tuning is more conservative for the warranty aspect.

Exactly. There are a lot of jokers who’d be caught completely off guard by a hybrid or big turbo equipped FiST. Big Turbo FiST is the name of my new band....
