This is a very good point. Folks who recommend alternators that "are working great" should also mention how many miles they have on them so far.

I always recommend stock, as long as the lower pulley is stock.

When I have to pull mine off, I'll know exactly how many miles it lasted because I'm the original owner. So far, it has 126k.
dang if you got that many miles out of your original why are guys having issues with theirs? Unless the original will actually last a long time and the one's guys have been getting are the reman'd ones that won't last?

I’m curious as to why a ground from the alternator to the negative battery post helps out with a higher amperage alternator?

lol i don't know! i may have just lucked out to be honest. but i think i have only read one other member on here that knows that his original lasted over 100k.

i am convinced that proper belt tension is key, however. once i put a too-tight belt on my coupe (with low miles on it), and it burned out the alternator in less than a year.

I'm pretty sure the alternator I pulled out of my car the first time was the original. It had around 110k I think. Stock lower and stock tensioner.

I've got a Start N Charge one, only had the car for about 7 mths but its been on for a few years still working.

I installed a Start N Charge on 3/23/2010, stock unit lasted ~50K miles, car currently has 79,916.

Original owner, born on date is in 12 days... still lovin' it.

gotcha and nice.
I just don't know what you are referring to when you say start and charge lol. I guess a standard alternator from parts store?
