Someone was lame enough to key my 2007 mustang at the gym. Little did they know It has about 50 coats of carnauba on it So, they didn't make it through the clear coat.

If you're going to key a car guys car you better put some elbow grease into it! I got 100% of it out. I say this as a joke I just know what I'm doing with detail work. I know carnauba didn't prevent it..I know someone will say something :)

That's great news that the person who did the keying didn't press down hard enough to go through the clear coat. Sucks though that some people, well, suck! I believe most just hate it when other have something (nice) that they'd like to have. So their anger/hate (whatever you want to call it) makes them lash out to destroy/harm said nice thing.

But I'm happy you got away unscathed! Nice detailing work BTW.

That could have been a gym bag/zipper that went across there. Hard to believe someone would go to the trouble of keying your car and not really try to cause damage.
I agree thats a pretty light scratch from a key.

People suck.
Looks good as new! How/what did you do to get it back to normal?

Maybe/maybe not. Leaning towards it was done intentionally. People are shit these days.
Almost EVERY SINGLE TIME I take my car out, when at a stop light/stop sign, the person behind me has to get right on my ass. Pisses me off something fierce.
When I'm in my truck, this almost NEVER happens??

Trust me they got it pretty good you could easily pick your finger nail on it they def tried..

They probably had a one chance swipe on it as they passed by so thats is good as they could do without planning it further I guess.

I have a portal cable 7424 dual action buffer and stepped through several different grits of compounds from heavy, moderate, fine, ultra fine, glaze then top coat with wax.

I ALMOST had to wet sand with 3000 and 5000 grit to get this out but I kept working the compounds as I wanted to go least aggressive as possible. This paint has to stick around for a long time! I don't plan to ever sell her :)

LOL, I hear you. I have a DD 4Runner and everything goes perfectly fine when I'm in it. Bring the GT500 to work, everyone is changing lanes into me, slamming on their brakes, tailgating me. WTF!?

Hate to say it, but I agree.

Not getting defensive but trust me it was a malicious key you can see where it started dug deep then even deeper as they flicked it to finish it off. Perfect arm dangle length.

I got keyed. It's a picture, ever looked at a ebay on ebay then gone and looked at it in person? If someone wasn't a detail guru it would still be there well into the clear. I have so many cutting compounds I essentially did the same as wet sanding it I had to go very aggressive with compounds and cutting pads.

:)

You have a different view than us. Mostly because were viewing from a picture. But you seem 100% is was a key. So why would anyone pick your car as the only car to key in that parking lot? Make any enemies at the gym? Park next to other cars that make you an easier target?

No, actually I am new to the area and just joined this gym about a month ago and have had zero conversations with anyone there outside of staff when I joined and a guy I work with that goes there. Head phones on hit the tread mill, then machines then go home. I am just assuming it was some kid being a kid. I try to think about where I park as far as avoid parking beside moms in surburbans etc but nothing too extreme out of the way.

I never think about keying my car, backing up and cutting into etc yes but nothing malicious. Maybe I should start looks like. I just thought it would be a topic for conversation of other people that has been keyed etc.

I grew up in an area outside of the city of Baltimore that was very blue collar with many people that were what you would call the"have-nots". Trust me, there are those that are so angry and jealous that someone has something that they themselves perceive as something they can/will never have, that they're inclined to damage it. It's not right, but I was just talking to my girlfriend this weekend about this mentality. She grew up in a much more affluent area than I did, and she had never dealt with people like this.

Any chance the gym has a video camera watching the parking lot? Would be great if they did....

Hopefully its someone just random....from outside the gym, vs. someone that goes to the gym. Once they notice the issue is fixed.....they may just try and key you again? Sad that some people are so unhappy or just rotten that they have to do stuff like this.

I tried, the gym does not have any cameras but there is a sams club that joins their parking lot. I got the times that i logged into the gym then headed into sams club. They lady that helped me was SUPER nice but their cameras was absolutely trash and the entire camera pod on the pole near my car was out due to lightning!

The others saw me pulling through but outside of that you couldn't see anything very smudged picture and you couldn't see faces, tag numbers or tell what anyone was doing that was even near the car.

You'd think camera systems in parking lots now days would be on point but i got a huge wake-up call about ever feeling safe with security cameras in a parking lot. This sams club is fairly new i would say at least 2012-2013 time frame being built..
