Hmm I’ll believe more when I see it. You can also get a 5.0 in a King Ranch and Platinum. You can’t in the limited and Raptor. So they’re wrong there.

Hmmm.

Wonder why the are billing it as fuel efficient.

Wasn’t all the eco hype supposed to do that?

Could this be the answer to corvettes twin turbo small cube mill?
Gt500 with snails and a screamer?

Interesting they mention peak hp and peak torque. What makes a great truck engine is a broad torque curve. Unless they are expecting to utilize the 10 spd auto to just keep the engine in its happy max power range. That could negate the need for a wide curve and thus maybe save some fuel.

Speaking of rumor mill, rumors are that the next gen. Raptor will get the same engine as the Shelby.

Why not a 4.6 just for old time sake
Because anemia sucks

Yes i still own a 4.6...but its atleast a 4v lol

My 5.0 f150 is leaps and bounds better than my old 4.6 and waaaay better the my old 5.4 as well

If the 4.8 is a 4v with good tq low and mid I'll be happy...like close to 400 mid and peaking north of 425 ill be happy

IE similar curve to my 5.0 just increased 20ish across the board

When they say power "dense" I think the number will be lower than hoped for. The engine will likely be saddled with every technology available (stop/start) to conserve fuel. Increased complexity, increased cost.

Yuck.

Yes. I also thought the 7.3 numbers where disappointing.

Back in the USA!
That would be a downgrade.

I don’t think he meant go back to the old modular 4.6.

A 4.6 using the coyote architecture with DI, auto engine shutoff etc could make really good power while also being much more fuel efficient than the current 5.0. A smaller, higher revving V8 with turbos wouldn’t be a bad move.

(4.8/5.0)*465 means it has to make at least more than 446 hp to be more power dense than the current mustang engine (465 right?) or at least more than 375 in a truck engine. I'd say both of those are easily doable, and if they're going to a small and lighter block like the CGI 2.7, I'll take less weight over .2 loss in displacement.

So, instead of fixing the leaking 5.0 they decided to make a 4.8?

jk

Wonder why the drop from the 5oh engine. Seemed liked they spent some R&D into it over the years.

Probably displacement limitations in Europe. Notice none of those engines are >= 5.0.
