I get what you mean and I like your choice or that reason! I met some of you roush guys at sema a few years ago and yes very commercial. You call up Nelson Racing Engines and Tom Nelson is who calls you back. I like that kind of shop

Plus the Ford GT is a hair over 44 inches tall. Ford GT44 doesn’t exactly have a good ring to it. The original is 40 inches tall which is where the “40” came from. So even if they had the rights to the name it made no sense to use it.

Ken

While true, I would have liked it to still be GT 40, IMO.

The guy who designed it was on Jay leno garage (who also design 03 cobra) and he said it only made production two years because of all kinds of regulation changes, like I remember him mentioning the headliner-top of window line was changed after 06 due to "crash regulation" so in 07 the roof would of had to be taller and it would not fit the lines/body of the car.

The engine is a 351W based motor.

Block: Fully Machined Dart SHP Block
Crankshaft: Eagle 4340 Steel
Stroke: 4.000"
Connecting Rods: Eagle H-Beam 6.200"
Pistons: Mahle Forged
Timing Chain: Ford Motorsport Double Roller
Camshaft: Comp Cams Custom Hydraulic Roller
Lifters: Ford Motorsport Hydraulic Roller
Cylinder Heads: CNC Brodix Track 1 214
Valves: SI 2.08/1.6
Rocker Arms: Scorpion 1.6 Roller

The motor will make over 550 hp.

One item that is a little trick are Firefly stainless steel headers, 2". They come polished on the outside, and ceramic coated on the inside.

These things are artwork, and flow like crazy. I have Firefly sidepipes on my Cobra, and when the carbon starts coming out of the stainless (which it will), you polish them and they are brand new again. I just did that on the Cobra over the winter.

Sorry it has been a while since I posted on this build, getting pictures has been a bit of an issue.

This is what the car looks like today, but I am told the other in progress pics will be coming along any day now.

Now that it is getting close, it is getting rather exciting.

They have not installed the Gurney flap yet.

Maybe it's just camera perspective but...... how in the world do you plan on slipping in to the seat? Looks like some tight spacing... Car looks pretty damn amazing though!

I know it looks tight, and it is tighter than say a Mustang, but it is easy to get into. Remember that the roof opens with the door, so you place your right foot in while standing, sit down on the nacelle, then swing your left foot in and slide into the seat. Also, the steering wheel is removeable if needed. I found I can get in with our without the steering wheel being in place. I am 6'-0" and 250 lbs, and fit nicely.

Two big boys in the car together and you will rub shoulders while giggling like school girls. :)

5:22 shows getting in, this is a smaller fellow so he can sit and pivot both feet in

No way my 6'5" frame is fitting in that thing. makes me sad.
6'-5" is a little tall for a GT40. I've seen 6'-3" guys in one, but the guy was bumping his knees under the dash.

I was shocked when I slid right in. Of course I am used to getting in and out of the Cobra too.

Man that is a tight squeeze. But having a removable wheel makes a difference. I was always curious about Cobra roadsters or Daytona Cobra's in regards to sitting in them. Especially at 6'2"

6'-2" in a Superformance Cobra or a Daytona Coupe is no problem. I guarantee

The Cobra is really easy to get in and out, as long as you don't have the top on. Then you go in head first! o_O
