Likely having my rear ended changed under warranty for same issue this week. Had a nice thumping/ humming sound that wasn’t just gear noise lol

One bad wheel bearing, and one trashed carrier bearing means shavings everywhere

Im about to go with a 4.11 gear set in mine. Sad part is as soon as I nullify my warranty to do the intake and tune that I literally installed a couple of weeks ago, my rear end started a good little whine at cruising speeds. I only have 16,000 miles on her. I do run it pretty hard however and was installing the 4.11’s anyway. Oh well...gotta pay to play!

It’ll be worth it. I broke my car in for 500 miles and then went to strip on STOCK tires at 600 miles to run an 11 in the summer heat and the rear whined on the way home.
Been with 4.10s since 700 miles and no complaints.
You’ll both be happy.
Good luck.

OP I'm guessing the rear end was whining but was it causing a vibration you could feel while driving? What caused the bearings to let go, just bad luck?

Asking cause at 50 mph I have a bad whine and very noticeable vibration coming through the e-brake handle. Been meaning to take it in cause I think one of my bearings must be looking like yours.

Also to everyone running 4.10's, how are you only able to hook? Is it only on a prepped track with slicks? Cause at my current HP level, 3.73, 315 street tires and on the street I'm not able to put all my power down in 1st, 2nd and sometimes even 3rd. I was actaully thinking to drop to 3.55's in an effort to tame things down a little and maybe make putting power down a little easier. Are 4.10's only usable if your running DR or ET Street tires when on the street?

No vibration at all when driving. Definitely whining though. And one wheel bearing was trash too, so it was loud if you turned left.

Is your car lowered? And did you readjust the pinion angle?

@Silver Talon well crap I was hoping the vibration was a bad bearing.

Car is lowered with eibach pro kit. Run a torque arm instead of an upper control arm so my pinion angle stays fixed, there is some adjustment that can me made but pretty much the angle is what it is. That said I will have to check into what the angle actually is, it should be zero degrees though.

I think I'd dial it down to -1 or so, maybe even 2. I realize the upper is solid, but the lower arms still have bushings, and will allow the axle to walk forward, which will change the angle still.

Make sure you flush the diff cooler also or your rebuild won't last long.
That was a bitch!!! Run two different 20 dollar cooler flush cans, and probably 7 quarts of new fluid through it before I was happy with what was coming out of the cooler. Not fun!!!!

Flush it the other direction also, something could be wedged in there.
I did. Used some air back and forth as well. I'll be ready for a fluid change in another couple hundred miles, and I'll pull the plug and check for metal too.
