Cue the C8 conversation... Haha
The c8 is going to hurt some ****ing feelings and I love it. People are already comparing the top tier mustang to the base model c8, the c8 is going to shit on the gt500 in most aspects.

Have you seen the backlash on social media from people on the Toyota pages about the new Supra? It’s brutal lol

Ford guy through and through. Nothing against chevy as i like some of their products as well. Owned plenty of different manufacturers. I want to love what chevy has done here. But i just cant. I loved the c7 minus the tail lights. I just couldnt get past em. And here we are again.... but dat price though for what you get...man! love the looks of the new gt500 as i cant stand the shape of the gt headlights near the wheel wells now. But cant get over the weight or dct. I wouldnt buy either one. I like buying low mileage older stuff and tinkering too much. JMHO

Well... How much does the ZL1 weigh?

My ZL1 (not 1LE) with the A10 scales at 3880 with 3/4 tank of gas.

Some of the people buying the new gt500 circa 2015.
“I’d never buy a fat pig like the hellcat, it’s too heavy”.

These same people now in the present.
“The new gt500 has a dct and it’s a Ford so weight is not a issue for me”.

LMFAO :p

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. At that weight, I'd rather buy an M5 Competition or a CTS-V (if any new ones are still out there) or just about any luxury sport sedan.

GT Premi, come to the dark side. We have cookies. ;)

At first I thought "Well that's dumb statement, they're not even in the same price range" but then I looked and, yeah as shocking as it is coming out of my mouth I think I would take the M5.
As you and Premi are comparing the M5 and it appears you are driving a convertible, then it appears performance isn’t the priority.
And I’d like to see the MSRP of a commonly optioned M5, as it will almost certainly be significantly higher.
My point has always been anything over 4000# isn’t a good starting point.
That said, 4225# is quoted base weight from what I can tell.
I’d like to see an actual car scaled versus Ford documents, but we have 2 members telling us the main competitors are 3880# (auto ZL1) and 4380# (light base narrow body Redeye).
I’m guessing the CFTP GT500 will be 4150# or a touch less, so it’s 270# heavy but 110hp over a ZL1 and 230# lighter but 40hp down from a light RE.
I think we’re all disappointed at the weight, but I think we need to see the performance before passing final judgment on the package as a whole.
I’m going to guess we will all be happy with the performance, so let’s weight and see what the actual cars scale at and the numbers they put out.
I’m still a buyer and I’m guessing true Mustang guys who prioritize performance and are able to afford it, will also.
Let’s hope these factors allow more of us to find cars without crazy ADM!

ZL1 1LE is 60lb lighter than zl1. They did a few things, went smaller 19" wheels, compared to 20 on the reg zl1.

I was a victim too, unfortunately. Had a new edge back in the day.

I will say this.

They were so “under dog” that with minimal bolt on crap through an auto it managed to put down 230/290

And honestly if the camaro boyz weren’t paying attention I could get past most of the time.

Also scared the shit out of 3v on the reg.

Shook rattled and rode terribly. But I luved it.

Mine made 260/300 and 360/400 on the juice.

Was a gutless turd for the work that went into it, but i loved it as well.

It's hard to believe how heavy this thing has become. She's 900 pounds heavier than '95 Cobra, 600 pounds heavier than the '03, and 400 pounds more than the '14 GT500. It's going to need those monster brakes, lightning fast transmission, and gobs of power. If I was in charge of the next generation I'd cut the car back down to SN-95 dimensions and that approximate weight....the car has become enormous and over weight IMHO.

It's 6+ inches longer, 3 inches wider, and nearly 2 inches taller than the SN car.

I think Ford lost me.... when the S550 gained weight after they said it would be lighter than the s197... they said the Ford GT would weigh right at 3000 and it ended up at 3300+lbs (plus they kept it secret until after delivery had already started)
4225 base weight is just out of control!

New 2021 M3/M4 is going to lose another 100-150lbs compared to last gen which was lighter then the previous gen.... it can be done...if the manufacturers want to....

You would be correct, I am a back road, top down, take it easy kind of guy with VMP GEN3R under the hood. If I was looking for a corner craving track weapon it would be something lighter and N/A like a C6Z. The gist of my post is at first it seems like a ridiculous comparison a $75k car to a $110k car of similar performance, but once you figure in the actual cost to buy they really aren't far off.

GT Premi, come to the dark side.

There is no dark side for me. I've owned several Chevy/GM products in the past. I don't hate the Camaro. I just don't like it as much as the Mustang. I have a sentimental connection with the Mustang that goes back to my childhood. I've actually been searching for a ZL1 1LE. There are TONS of them available in the area brand new. But then I look at that interior, and I just can't do it. That hideous steering wheel just ruins it for me. LOL And considering that's the thing you see the most... That and the seats. Why couldn't Chevy offer the Corvette's Competition seats in the ZL1 1LE??

As you and Premi are comparing the M5 and it appears you are driving a convertible, then it appears performance isn’t the priority.
...

Ha! I guess you've never looked at the vehicles in my sig. I just don't want a 4000++ lbs "extreme performance" car. Why do you think I spent countless time and money taking weight out of my '11 GT500? And that one was "only" 3800 lbs to start. If I'm going to have something over 4000 lbs, it might as well at least be nice, too. And that's the first I've heard that the M5 isn't a performance-minded vehicle. On another note, I just found out yesterday that Audi is going to bring the RS6 back to the States next year!!!!!! So add that to the rather-have alternative list, too. (Unfortunately, it's still a station wagon.)

I hate to sound like "those guys," but for people who want good performance and speed, but don't want to pony up the big bucks up front, it really would make sense to by a GT PP2 and throw some snails on it. The weight of this GT500 is a HUGE letdown for me. Maybe I'll change my mind in the coming months, but I seriously doubt it. Like I said in another thread, I think my Mustang buying days are over until Ford does a reset and gets its size and weight in check.
