Polyrhythmic classic right there...

I've been listening to Loomis/Merrow stuff again recently. It's closest to how I play when I'm just doing improv/making stuff up. Of course, these guys are in a totally different realm of skill and mastery. I'm working my ass off to get where they were 10 years ago...

Definitely brother!
I only really like the early Meshuggah albums. The NONE e.p. is chock full of breakdowns and riffs! \m/

Loomis,...that dude can jam. Don't really listen to him, but I know he can rock out bad.

You need to put on some Nevermore. He has toned it way down since he joined Arch Enemy, but man Godless Endeavor is a 7-string masterpiece.

Wait until the end. The sweeps. *cries*

I'll have to check it out.
I've heard of NEVERMORE, but never have listened to them.

Haven’t been able to stop listening to the new Pepper album that came out in late July.
Ever since Bradley J from Sublime died I’ve been craving that sound and Long Beach Dumb Allstars wasn’t cutting it.

Damnit I’ll old

Yeah, dude is nasty. They kinda sound like Dream Theater.
(Not my cup of tea. I skimmed through the video though.)

That's cool, we all have different tastes and there's nothing wrong with that.

So, since you're into a lot of heavier death/black metal, what do you think of Ihsahn/Emperor? Or his brother in law's band Leprous?

I've actually rediscovered a lot of synth-wave I use to listen to when I was younger. Definitely not for everyone.

Never heard neither one's music.
I have heard of Emperor, but never heard of Leprous.

What I listen to is mostly the thrash/death metal/hardcore of the 1980's - 1990's. God, those were the days!! Almost a show every weekend and the BEST time for metal/hardcore ever. THE_BEST!
Some of the bands I like; Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, and Defiance just to name a very few.
Some new bands are pretty good as well like; Knocked Loose, Kublai Khan and Jesus Piece. ****ing heavy as **** with tons of riffs/breakdowns.

Edge of Sanity?

If that album doesn't scratch the heavy riff itch, I don't know what will. This one is a masterpiece.

Zip to 21:40 and tell me that isn't metal perfection. So simple, so damn brutal. He must have tracked that 8 times to get that wall of distortion.

Plus Dan runs a RH 6 string, strung normal, flipped around to play left handed. I have no idea how he does it. The chord shapes and progressions are totally different if it is not strung backwards... Blows my mind.

I'll have to check it out in a bit. I'll let you know now, I'm kind of a "music snob", if you haven't figured that out by now. lol :)
If the music is good, but the vocals suck, I'll pass on any band. Vice versa, if the vocals are great, but the music sucks, I'll pass.
