BMR K Member w/ Lowered Motor Mounts Concern

I just recently purchased the BMR K member with the 1/2 inch lowered motor mounts. Does anyone have any experience with this set up? Any issues with scraping the oil pan or anything like that? Thanks

No works perfectly. You wont have clearance issues unless your slammed to the ground on a shitty suspension. In fact you get more top hood clearance for bigger blowers.

I’m also interested in this. Any other suspension alignment issues or ancillary things that need to be addressed or keep in mind when going the lowered motor mount route? Also any benefits other than hood clearance for those of us with basic bitch blowers and cowl hoods?

Well from what i have read the non lower mounts actually sit the motor slighty higher. But i dont have 1st hand experience with that. Also the lower mounts allow most of the strut tower braces to clear with bigger blowers.

If your basically not planning on going with a bigger blower it doesnt matter much if you get the lower mounts of not. I did not install mine so i cant say what all needs to be done to get it all setup right.

Can't tell if OP is inquiring about lowering the motor for supercharger clearance, for some other hood clearance reason, or to get the weight down lower to lower the CG for cornering/handling reasons. It might make a difference.

Header ground clearance would be my first thought, if that's a consideration.

I was hoping to help with the CG of the car by bringing the motor down some. But after looking into it I’ve seen people encounter issues with the steering column, headers, as well as oil pan. Not sure if it is worth all the headache. But for the most part from what I’ve been reading I don’t think it should be terribly troublesome. I’ll just have to see what sort of problems I encounter on install...

How did this work out? Im considering new steeda mounts and dropping the engine 3/4 inch in the process for CG / Handling. Im concerned with what that will do to pinion angle and clearances for steering shaft , headers.. etc . 2014 mustang GT.

Lowering the engine by 3/4" would only drop the overall car CG by about 1/8". Granted, whatever improvement would mainly affect front lateral load transfer (most people incorrectly call this "weight transfer"), but even if we assume that only front LLT is affected, it's only by some notional "total front weight" being lowered by 1/4".

In terms of front tire grip, don't expect more than negligible improvement (educated guess, on the order of 5 or 10 lbs @ 1g). That's because lowering the CG does more than just reduce the load on the outboard tires - when you transfer less load to the outside you're leaving more load on the inside tires.

A quarter inch less roll moment arm up front isn't going to reduce the amount of roll by enough to matter, meaning that any grip gains from cambers changing by something like a couple hundredths of a degree are also going to be negligible.


This mod is the kind of thing you'd do for either of two reasons. You're either competing for top finishing position at autocross/time trialing/wheel-to-wheel racing where you're close enough to where the small differences matter, or you're doing it strictly for subjective reasons (such as to give you another line item on your build poster at a car show). Both are valid reasons, but which should be kept strictly separate.

Perhaps with the BMR one. But there are other K-members that are stronger that may provide a handling benefit on a road course. They also allow you access to the oil pan without having to drop the entire K-member.

Other benefits are entirely possible. But those would be due to improved structural design, not because the engine was lowered.

Thanks for a great response Norm. For my application then its really not worth it to me. I will be swapping out the motor mounts to steeeda when i do my headers .. only reason Im asking . Hate to put old motor mounts back in once they are out.. i will just keep the default engine height since these mounts are adjustable.
