So I’m running a ported Eaton which i want to stay with , with a 2.7 upper , and some of my guys are really pushing the lower pulley too thing . But i hear mixed opinions about this all the time . Some examples are ,,,,
THE NEGATIVES
- you’ll break your crank
- you’ll overspin your blower
- your blower will get too hot etc

THE POSITIVES
- you’ll make that Eaton sing
- you’ll have A LOT more power
- you WILL NOT break the crank
- you’ll have more boost at lower RPM’s

Please some facts and opinions , thank you

I'm with Four Door SVT as far as having the lower cage. But I think as long as you keep belt tension in check you should be ok.

However, a buddy had a 4lb lower with a 2.76 upper on a stage 4 ported eaton and he never had crank issues. I think he put close to 140k on that set up as it was his daily. When I tuned it I remember the IAT's being cooler than I expected. But he did have an alignment issue. It would shave the inner rib off a brand new belt with razor precision. So expect to have to deal with that if you go with a lower.

That being said, if YOU'RE happy with how the car is leave it alone. Especially if it's running good.

The labor of having to remove the stock caged crank pulley can be a big ordeal. The piece pictured that's threaded onto the main crank pulley/harmonic balancer was almost impossible to get off it ended up taking three of us just to get it loose. Although it may be easier with the engine in the car.

I had just went with a 4lb lower on stock set up.

Being my cage was beyond repairing any more and eventually I was going to have to go with out cage

I’m happy. No belt issues

I do notice more boost at less throttle than before

Wasn’t worried about alt over spinning with just this. Stock upper

A crankshaft holding tool is best used to break it loose before pulling the engine. Remove the transmission, bell housing and clutch install the holding tool and use a breaker bar with a cheater bar. You can pull the engine after that with it still on but broke loose.

Yeah that would have been smart. By the time I had to remove the pulley the engine was already out. This was my first time doing this deep of work on a ford. I'll know better if i ever have to do it again. Thanks for the advice
