Let's not start a turf war here... as an Iowan, I am offended!

Hey all the love for my Iowan friends but facts are facts. If you want good Eyetalian food you gotta be on this side of I-81. You want E85, Fried Butter, & Boy Howdy nice people, Iowa is the place. Btw I'm jealous of the E85.

Ha, Olive Garden...who the hell eats there anymore? I don't understand how they or Red Lobster still have their doors open.

Red lobster biscuits are the shit haha.

The rest of the food is garbage though

Let's see.... Their pasta, it sucks, calamari...its rubber with a ton of soggy breading. The bread sticks!!!! Oh, they're so great! Oh, wait...they suck too!

Two cans of canned sauce, cooked pasta and some browned burger done at home is better than any Olive Garden I've stepped foot it.

The year i spent in Sicily did that to me as well

I had food 10 times better for a 3rd the price there. I actually cant stand olive garden lol...never was impressed by them or any chain Italian food that matter.

If I was guessing I'd bet the sauce and soup is from a bag and the chicken parm and such is out of a box. Good Italian food is not expensive to make. Time consuming, maybe. Expensive, no.

^^^Lol....coming from an Italian family with a grandmother, mother and aunts who cooked better than most Italian restaurants I learned well over the years. I can cook anything Italian at home and if I want to eat out it usually at my friends seafood restaurant. Fresh caught shellfish and fish is my kind of dining out food.

Same reason there's one in Time Square, which is why so many Americans will never travel outside the US. They only want what they are use to. I travel with friends up to Lights Out in Georgia, and they always want to hit up Hooters. I finally bitched enough they they caved and we went to some locally owned BBQ place, and imagine this, they were shocked how awesome it was.

This is one of the things that doesn't make sense to me about Texas.

All over the place there are small chains, or locally owned BBQ places, steak houses, Mexican restaurants, etc.

And Chilis is ****ing packed. Same thing with Saltgrass.

There is better food anywhere you look.

These threads crack me up. All the food snobs, with professional grade palettes come out. I'm not saying Olive Garden is the best Italian food ever because it's clearly not. But just saying a smaller, less known restaurant is better without articulating WHY is dumb.

Smaller/local/out of the way/mom and pop =/= better in all cases. And not everyone's taste buds are the same.

It's not even that. A block box pizza from Dominos blows anything Olive Garden has out of the water, and it's an $8 pizza made by teens that are too stoned to hold down a job at 7-11.

I get what you're saying and when I have gone to the OG I always get the second meal they offer but let's be real, we only go there and to Red Lobster for the biscuits and bread sticks. Ha

I mean some people just don't have the option to get anything better, but the majority of us do, I question that group.

Anytime I travel to another state I seek out the mom and pop places, I refuse to eat at chain restaurants unless there's no other choice.

The RL cheese biscuits are legit. Nothing like saying "**** my waistline" and going to the RL bar for a beer and some cheese biscuits.

Don't get me wrong, if I'm beyond tired or desperate I'll go to either one for what can be technically called "food". I went to RL in Scottsdale, AZ a few years ago because I had driven for 12 hours that day towing a 36 foot trailer and it was across the parking lot from my hotel. I was tired to the point that my choices were whittled down to either that RL or a Hot Pocket from a vending machine. RL narrowly won out.

You couldn't give me this kind of a "pass", to eat microwave warmed bullshit, fresh out of a frozen food bag.
