#83 has 1600 miles and is overdue for a little work. I suppose I’m keeping to that 2000 mile/ 20 year service plan.

Evan at SHG Motorsports agreed to completely flush of every drop of original fluids (engine oil was done a few times) and then address those pesky 00R issues too- rack & cell.

No expense will be spared. No short cuts. If the bladder needs replaced- fine, do it.

Background, Evan works on all sorts of high end race cars for living. He’s restored a couple of race cars for me and a buddy with fuel cell experience. With that said, what unforeseen challenges may pop up that he needs to understand?

I’ve asked Evan to join SVTP and freely share the learning when he drops and inspects the cell, etc.

Thanks all

John, completely off topic but how do you like the ex-realtime cars compared to the Boss 302S on track?

Hey, sorry for the delay getting back.

I love my RTR V6 TSX. It’s a hammer. 385hp, 2700lbs, FWD, 305 front tires, ABS with an Xtrac 6 speed. The car is amazing with a huge learning curve.

The TSX is the passion and my Boss 302s has proven to be an outstanding paperweight.

Professional built and tuned race cars are worth every penny !

the fuel cell in my 03 cobra was installed 4/29/04 which is the same fuel cell in the 00R. I'll have to replace it very soon. It's basically just worth buying a new cell at this point.

I have an unscientific theory regarding leaking cells... some seem to leak early in their life and others later or never. My car still has the original cell with no signs of leaking (knock on wood). My R has spent its life with not much gas sitting in the cell. My theory is when these cars sit with full cells, leaks develope. I keep less than a 1/4 tank in my car... this is mainly due to not wanting the gas to get old since I only drive the car periodically. When I take it for a spin, I usually hit a gas station and put a couple gallons in it.

Depends who ya talk to I guess.

I was told years ago a full tank is better as it doesn’t allow oxidization to start.

So not sure........

Sent from my POFS iPhone in a rage cause this is the third try.

Not sure about leaking cells. Mines 15yrs old and it's not leaking but unfortunately the race sanctions that I'm wanting to sign up for require that no cell can be more than 10yrs old. So for now I'll continue to HDPE my car.

I'm looking for an 00'R to add to my arsenal of track prepped cars.

I was told by one of the original 2000 R Ford Engineers, that the cell will eventually break down regardless the way you store it, half full, all full of gas etc. One of the items he told me to do was to religiously change the fuel filter every year to protect the fuel injectors of the break down material. I wanted to make any new 00 R owner aware of the possible side effects of the fuel cells.

That is true. The foam will break down and break off into chunks of various sizes. Another problem is the bladder can end up leaking. Right now I don't have any leaks but I do have a return style fuel filter with an inline 10 micron filter that I need to check but so far no issues.

I personally think the bladders dont like Ethanol based fuels........

100% agree. I was told the same thing and live by this religiously. Ethanol free 93 only - including in my small engines.

I recently changed the fuel filter in my 04 Cobra while the diff was out. I couldn’t imagine changing that filter in that web of an IRS. However, I’m going to have to look into it.
