I think this is a site I was referenced after I paid to have mine rebuilt locally.

6G SeriesAlternator Parts, Starter Parts, Rebuild Kits, Upgrade Kits
I think that's where I got the stuff to rebuild mine to a 200amp. The first regulator lasted about a week. The second one about a year. It doesn't like idle speeds though. I swapped on a 2" alternator pulley and bumped the idle rpm to 850. The lights would still dim at idle. But as soon as the rpm came up it charged really well. I'd probably go 160 or 170 if starting over. I have a 160 in the car now that was rebuilt locally that I'm happy with.

wondering if you can actually build one that can be comparable to a nations, j2fab unit speaking of performance and longevity life

Yeah even after learning about that site I think I would still pay to have it rebuilt because of the warranty. I had mine bumped up to a 160a and use the metco 3.2 pulley without issues.

You would just need to find out what parts they use that’s all. The shop in Houston I used said they’re pretty easy to rebuild. They said you would just need to be picky to avoid the cheaply made stuff.

edit reworded

Hmm I still have my original alternator. It was going south so I bought a Nations. I should still get it rebuilt.

A Nations bread and butter is the external regulator.

I bought one here for $20 that I plan on having rebuilt by a local place that are really good and have excellent warranty.

J2Fab here...if you’re on FB, you’ll see a ton of reviews for it. Good alt. I get about 14.1-14.2 at idle after the car is warm. Solid piece, well worth the price, IMHO. I’ve just went through 4 different alternators, including2 different 3G’s (one was used, one was from another popular vendor) and a local rebuild.

how long you had unit and how much time has it actually been driving?

my stock alternator is at 65,000 and its at 13.0 volts but my pumps suck it down to around 12.3-12.6 at idle when hot but soon as i get back going it will stay around 13-12.9

Drive it on weekends and bout twice to week to work. Alternator has been on a month with zero issues. Never lower than 14 volts.

what are you using to read voltage?
