That was my thinking, I originally just thought it was a simple swap until I started reading the subtle differences in intakes.

Aviator heads work on a Terminator?

Aviator, Mach, and Cobra heads are the same. I'm pretty sure they all use the same cams as well.

B heads 93-98 Mark VIII, 96-98 Mark VIII had the F6 castings and the 97/98 engines had the intakes that can be used on a swap into a Mustang. B heads you can get for free or for beer money. I had 3 sets of F6 heads I couldn't give away.
C "unrevised" heads 99/01 Cobra and 99-02 Continental. 4 thread plugs, very good bargain and make good power, I've found sets as low as $150 for a pair. These are the best bang for the buck heads and can be timeserted if you are worried about the plugs. Little exhaust/valve work and they flow as well as revised heads so if you are going to do any porting anyway you might as well save money and go with these.
DA revised Terminator/Mach/Aviator heads 4 thread found on earlier engines $400 or so. Most ppl do not build these up but they are a good deal if found cheap and can be timeserted if worried about 4 thread plugs.
DB revised Terminator/Mach/Aviator heads 8 thread found on recall/updated Terminators/Mach/Aviators $500-$1000 depending on condition
DC final revision Aviator heads 8 thread found on very late run 04 and all 05 Aviators $500-$1000 depending on condition
00R heads = the best and good luck finding them and if you do prepare to pay $2k+ plus
Navigator heads have big intake ports, need a ton of exhaust work and are not that great. I wouldn't pay a dime for them.

*MYTH* "Blue Stripe" heads actually mean anything. They don't. It was an inventory mark by some dealers and warehouses. If you see some clown on the forums/CL/ebay trying to market "blue stripe" heads, that's a dipshit/scammer seller.

For cams

96-98 Cobras used the best (besides the 00R) 204 duration F6ZE intake cams - $200-$300
99 Cobras and 99 Continentals used the next best 202 duration X3TE (I think that's the serial) cams - $100
00Rs used special cams which are the best ones Ford made for the 4V but you might as well just get custom ones
01 Cobras used 200 duration intake cams - $50 or free
Terminators/Machs/Aviators/Mark VIIIs and 00-02 Continentals all used basic Lincoln cams I think 184 duration intake... something like that...

Someone talking about crankshafts? Cast crank is fine, if you are an NA car you actually want it over the forged one, lighter and spins up faster. For power adder cars... lets be real who is ACTUALLY going to be making over 700hp? Because if you aren't and aren't going to be turning a ton of RPM the cast crank is fine and its free and it saves weight. Plenty of ppl use the cast crank with great results, please go find me a high power street car where the engine let go and it was because the crank failed. I'll wait.

So what I am reading here is this.

I just picked up an 05 Aviator with the better DC heads. My cobra motor sounds noisy (haven’t torn it apart YET) The best bang for my buck is

Strip Aviator to a long block, swap timing cover, intake, oil pump, pan, Flywheel and I’m good to go??

What about the coolant passages?? I’m not running a heater, can I just plug them or is this the air purge for the coolant system??

I plan on replacing the guides and adjusters, is it worth replacing the cams??

Sorry for kicking the dead horse but I’m trying to get this done ASAP

Well the aviator motor will need a 6 bolt flywheel. But other than that you are right on the money! Not worth replacing unless you are throwing a set of 96-98 cobra cams in or better yet some custom ones. Anything less than that and i wouldn't bother.

If you are dropping in a used Aviator DOHC 4.6 you will want to replace the timing chains / guides / tensioners. The stock tensioners are shit and WILL fail and you’ll have to rip the motor apart and drop the pan to clean out all the broken chain guide pieces. Use Ford tensioners as aftermarket pieces are not nearly as good. Definitely not a cheap job.

aftermarket tensioners are very good, just ensure you use those that are metal.

Aviator engines require you to use the cobra oil pan and front cover. DO NOT use the Aviator intake manifold.

Thanks guys, all great advice, yes I forgot to mention the flywheel, and replacing the pan/pickup. The tensioners I planned on doing while it was apart. So it’s a no on the cams I’m guessing..?? I appreciate all the input Thanks again
