So, my buddy bought a house and we found this in the shed. I asked him what he was going to do with it and he said throw it in the garbage. So I asked him if I could have it and he said I can have it. Score.
I had no clue what it was and ended up after some research, finding out it is an Oak 300 Gumball Machine (I think 80's, especially since it's a 25c machine).
First I brought it to my local lock smith because I had no key for it and he said there are only a few combinations of those keys. He checked his inventory and had one at the store and gave it to me.
I disassembled it and brought it to a place down the street from work that does powder coating, painting etc. and asked them if they could refinish it for me. I told them do the classic red and they said no problem. That night, I went home and was looking up pictures on google of gumball machines and then my head started thinking. I called them back the next day and said, paint the top piece gloss black and the bottom bright yellow.
I took dimensions of the machine, found some pics of google of what I was thinking and send them to Mooch. He made me up the decals and I have to say, they're fantastic and exactly what I was envisioning in my head.
I disassembled and cleaned everything, and spent over 5 hours polishing the legs and the front pieces of the machine. Believe it or not, I used the 04 Sleeper Polished Pipes method on the legs. For the most part it came out fantastic, but the bottoms were so pitted, even when wetsanding with 80 grit didn't make it perfect.
I ordered a new "globe", polished every metal piece, and bought new springs.
It took a lot more time than I had thought, but the end result was worth all my time and effort.
Anyways, here are some pics.
