... Quartz watches are pretty maintenance free with the exception of batteries and seals. That being said, the jury is still out on if quartz watches are really "heirloom" watches that will last generations. A well kept mechanical watch will last generations. View attachment 1589196

As long as the battery doesn't corrode and ruin the movement, there's no reason a quartz can't be an heirloom piece. I like mechanical watches, too, but they require too much maintenance, IMO. It's also easier to find and replace a quartz movement versus a mechanical.

That depends, eta/sellita/seiko mechanical base movements are dime a dozen and not all that expensive.

All true...the only unknown is really about the heirloom part of it as quartz watches have really only been around for a half century. The other argument is the provenance aspect of the watch. If the movement has been replaced with a new movement its kind of a watch "restomod". Quartz movements are cheap and easy to replace...so that is the beauty with them. Many quartz watches have case and dial designs that are absolutely beautiful, moreso than mechanical watches in most cases because they aren't limited by the design restrictions of a mechanical movement. So in that case it becomes more about the aesthetic beauty of the watch as a piece of art and less about the watch as timepiece.

Bingo! In the days of smartphones, wristwatches are purely arm jewelry. It's more about the appreciation for its design and construction than its timekeeping ability. I like a unique watch that I'm not likely to see somebody else wearing. I want a first generation Devon Treadmill watch sooooo badly!

Go on a watch forum. The only quartz in the industry that has any respect or provenance at all is the stuff Grand seiko offers. That said anything can be an heirloom.

My first watch my wife got me. It's a Stuhrling winding watch so I keep it in my perpetual watch case.
Also in my case is my Rolex Datejust 41 with a white gold bezel. I need a new crystal on it cause I forgot to take it off while welding one time. Grrrrr
My daily is my wife's grandfather's Fossil watch he got when he retired from the Omaha police dept. Love the timed bezel on this one!
