Having owned a M3 and Boxsters, Porsche and BMW program the transmissions differently...

In a Porsche, when you come to a red light and then release the brake pedal, the car will engage the transmission and crawl forward. If on a hill, it will sit with brake on.

In a BMW, when you release the brake the car will sit like in neutral until you touch the accelerator, then it will engage and crawl. If you are on a hill it will roll, unless the hill start is activated, then it will sit with brakes on.

Also, when you down shift the Porsche with the paddle in auto mode, the car will hold that gear for 10s, then resume auto mode.

On BMW, if you downshift manually, it will remember that and not continue to shift up until you return it to auto mode. I think there was a trick to pull both paddles to return to auto mode, but I did not learn this until after I sold the car and I hated it bc if I just wanted to drop a gear or go up a gear it would require additional button pushes to get it back to auto mode.

So I preferred the Porsche DCT programming in all aspects except I did like the BMW staying in neutral until I touched the gas.

What will Ford do and what GM will do... Will they be the same?

I dont recall the bmw working that way. In D or M, paddles would shift for that shift only. Obviously in M i would have to shift it, but in D, it would revert back to its own auto shift logic.

I dont recall how the 991 shifted, or what mode i even had it in, sport i think, but cant recall

Launch Control:

Optimizes launch traction during a standing start
Selectable in the Cobra menu
The rpm setting allows the user to set launch rpm value within the allowable range
Feature is automatically selected when in Drag Strip drive mode
Lets drivers set and hold the desired launch rpm depending on tire temperature,
surface conditions or weather
Not intended for cold, wet or slippery conditions
Intended for use only where consistent acceleration is desired
Integrated with AdvanceTrac and the engine control system to minimize wheelslip
during a standing start
Provides a unique “drag start” traction calibration specifically designed for high-grip
surfaces
Can be turned on and off via the Cobra menu
The rpm set point can only be changed in the Track Apps menu using the 5-way
control pad
Launch control setting does not turn on/off with key cycle
The rpm setting allows the driver to set launch rpm value within the allowable
range
Launch control engine rpm set point range is available in 100 rpm increments

NOTE: Launch control is engineered to be used with the original equipment provided on Shelby GT500. Any modifications to the vehicle may affect feature function or performance.
NOTE: Launch control is only available if the coolant temperature is more than 170°F.

Provides a permanent manual gear selection where full control of gear selection is
required
Manual does not automatically upshift even if the engine is approaching the RPM
limit
It must be shifted manually by pulling the + paddle
Pull and release (tap) the right paddle + to upshift.
Pull and release (tap) the left paddle – to downshift
Pull and hold both of the right paddle + and the left paddle – for temporary neutral
position
Neutral will remain until both paddles are released
Pull and hold the right paddle + to command the transmission to sequentially
upshift to the maximum allowed gear
Pull and hold the left paddle – for the lowest allowable gear
