I LOVE that Carerra.

My small collection:

Tag Carrera Day Date

Tag Aquaracer Chronograph

Tag Formula 1

Shinola 1069 (gotta rep Detroit)

Citizens Eco Drive

Daily Citizens Eco Drive and the Formula 1 the most

Next watch will be a Omega Planet Ocean without a doubt. After, I don’t know. Probably a Tissot V8 and maybe another Shinola to add to the daily collection.

Gun lovers might be able to appreciate these. "Trigger" watch on the left. "Sniper" watch on the right.

Torgoen t25 meteorite with a cheap Barton nato strap. Haven’t been into watches long. Been very helpful with my current job to wear one, so I jumped on board.

I stopped wearing watches years ago. Until recently when I got an Apple Watch 4 and I don't wear that all the time either. What do you do with all the batteries in the watches that sit around? Do they leak? I have a Tissot kinetic watch that charges via movement and does not have a battery to worry about. It's been sitting in a box for more than 20 years now. I better check to see it is still there lol! I have another nice watch that does have a battery and will have to take it in to see if any damage has occurred. It too has been packed away for decades.

A lot of these watches are mechanical.

But, I've never had a battery leak in a watch.

I've not had any leakage from my battery powered watches, and the batteries last 3 to 4 years. One trick that a lot of watch collectors use is to pull the crown out to the time setting position when they're in storage. That stops the watch and supposedly prolongs battery life.

Sporting my B&M today...

As far as quartz vs mechanical goes...each has their own strong points and detractions. Battery replacement every few years can be a PITA, but then again so is a service/overhaul for a mechanical/auto watch which can range from a couple hundred $ to a couple thousand $ depending on the make of the watch. Quartz watches are pretty maintenance free with the exception of batteries and seals. That being said, the jury is still out on if quartz watches are really "heirloom" watches that will last generations. A well kept mechanical watch will last generations.

My opinion on it is watches are technically completely obsolete and useless (don't get mad I still love them) therefore if I'm bothering with one it has to have the soul of a mechanical with some rare exceptions like the Breitling exospace.

*purely opinion

A good mechanical watch has a soul and a personality just like an old Harley Davidson motorcycle. An electric watch has the soul of a light switch. I have both kinds, my Chronosport Quartz is 41 years old, I just put a new battery in every couple of years and I used to send it out for a pressure test but the guy retired so the watch has too. but it still keeps decent time. My Rolex is 27 years old but looks like new, These days I just wear it so nobody gives me trouble cause they know I got it made.

I love my Aquaracer, have been wanting to get a Speedy Pro too. I have really abused my Aquaracer too, dropped, worn while wrench on cars, working out etc. This watch has taken virtually no damage and hasn’t missed a beat.

Good to know that a TAG will survive that abuse cause I've put my watches through the same!

Both are nice divers. I believe they both use ETA movements. The HC will retain closer its original value, whereas the Tag will take on some massive depreciation. That being said if buying new...I'd buy the HC. If getting pre-owned then I'd get the Tag because someone else will have eaten the depreciation. I own both and quite honestly they are both great divers in their own right. If you want to save a few bucks and get an equally good diver that I think looks better than both of them...look at the Tissot Seastar. It punches way above its weight. Its probably my favorite diver and they can be had for under $500 new if you shop right.

Thanks for the info. Had to do some research on ETA movements cause I have no clue. I'm leaning towards the HC since I'm buying new and want a something that will retain its value. I can tell this is gonna be a slippery slope. Hopefully I can work my way up to my dream watch is a Batman GMT Master

If you are buying a new model it will have a Selitta movement and not the ETA (since 2014ish). The Sellita is technically an ETA clone and is practically identicle and still swiss made. Some people will say the ETA is better but thats BS. Oris, Tag, Longines etc all use them and they are all going to be equal in build quality when comparing divers, sport, chrono etc. ETA/Selitta is nice because they are workhorses that will put up with good abuse. Id never buy an "in house" movement as all it really does for you is drive up costs.
