I took my 04 vert to the shop to get checked over because I assumed the tire rods or ball joint were bad. They called me yesterday evening and told me everything checked out fine. They told me the tin can rattle up front is from the large flakes of chrome that are coming off my stock wheels. I’ve never heard of that before... is that even possible??

I know if they’re factory wheels you can remove some protective coating on the inside.

My aftermarket chrome wheels did/are doing this. And they're pitting really bad too. My car stays in my garage, the wheels haven't seen the light of day in years....

Does it sound like it’s something with the suspension? It’s so noisy and loud when I go over any type of bump.

That would have to be one helluva flake to be heard while driving. Did they check the brakes too? Sometimes people leave the clips out and that'll cause some noise when going over bumps.

I actually do know what you're talking about and I remember I had this problem once before. From what I remember I think it was the dust shield on the brake caliper.

Can’t imagine you’d hear chrome peeling whatsoever.

Yes, the OEM wheels can and do peel. My first 04 had a couple of spots inside the barrel that were peeling.

I with others

That flake would have to be huge

These front pads do have issues.

Rattle clip is only half.

The actual clip on pads hold pads tight to caliper only. And rattle clip holds pads from froward motion rattle.

These if you just grab hold caliper and rock and wiggle it should be tight.

I have had pad clip break and caliper will come up and rub on rim. Ruined a new wheel that way

I believe they did. I needed a new tires and caliper. They should be calling me this evening. I’ll find out.

I have this exact issues right now, I'm looking to replace pads, because the clips that hold them in have broken when I painted my calipers.

I just got it back and I’m speechless. The entire inside of the front rims is peeling or peeled and just hanging there - huge pieces. They did tear off some of it and it was a lot quieter on the way home, but there is still so much that needs to be taken off. They told me they didn’t want to do anymore because they were afraid it would peel of the front of the wheel.

Are you original owner?

Wonder if they were chromed again after or not even oem wheels.

Link on our wheels in how to section on making machines wheels chrome.

Like if all oem are chrome to begin with than changed

No. I’m the 2nd owner. The rear ones are starting to peel but not even close to what the fronts look like.

Yeah - here is a big piece that is peeling of the inside.

Do you have a pic of the chrome flaking off?

You said the peeling is one the INSIDE of the wheel. Is it actual chrome peeling off, or is it the gray coating over the chrome. From what you are describing, it sounds like the gray coating over the chrome. Terminator FAQs
