Hey guys,
I just purchased a set of MT's 305/35/20 and threw it on the factory wheel. The swaying is really bad at highway speeds. Even during normal driving on the highway I have to constantly counter steer through a big turn let alone when I nail it. I hear so many guys running this size on the factory rim so I'm really curious as to what you guys are experiencing, or better yet, what you would recommend. Thanks

Shoot man I’ve run down to 24psi and i can feel it lean more but no swaying what so ever.

Wonder if you have a bad tire.

Doubt being put on backwards would cause that.

I had the same problem, I took them off and will never put them back on. The only thing They did great at was hooking on the street from a dig. I guess you have to pick your poison.
I also tried them from 20 psi to 35 psi. Same sway at Highway speeds.

I have no issue with mine, great street tire for traction and no swaying at about 25psi. I've heard others say they sway, though, but they feel no different than the 555Rs I was previously running at highway speeds.

Only thing I can think of is you need to air them up a little more....

I had an issue with pirellis where my entire rear end swayed back and forth under higher speeds and WOT. Switched to nitto and no issues since.

This tire usually needs a 10 - 12" wheel, how wide is your factory wheel ??

I’ve been upwards of 140 on mine in mid 20 psi.

Either it’s an issue with the specific tire or like someone mentioned, mismatched width/tire size.

So not an apples to apples comparison.

When I was running stock 20x9.5 wheels and 305/35 nitto G2 tires there was noticeable rear end sway when changing lanes at highway speeds, I attributed this to running 305's on a 9.5" width rim. 305's will fit on a 9.5" width rim but you really need a 10" width rim to properly support 305's.

Not 100% but perhaps your sway issues are a combination of running too wide of a tire than the rim can support and MT's sidewalls being less stiff than a "normal" type tire.

i would say width of wheel. i had sway on my 04 with stock rear wheels and a 315 tire. Swapped over to a 10.5 wheel same 315 tire. no further issues.

thats very helpful thank you.
Just curious, Is the PP wheel the same size as the non PP wheel?

I'm going to look for a smaller DR that will fit the rim-either a 275 or 295. Preferably the later since I worry a 275 will look too narrow.

I had these MT ET Street 305's on stock rims for 2 years. MT advised on 9.5" rims the sidewalls "bulge out" more to accommodate the narrower rim mount. That + low psi could be a sway factor.
I felt only a slight bit of "wiggle" on quick lane changes or spirited sharp turns not necessarily requiring correction. I'd not classify the experiences as "sway"...I ran them at 20-22psi. I agree with advice to try some road experiments at varying psi to determine what feels best. Then..if there's straight line needs do the same type of testing for ultimate traction. When I knew I'd be digging it oout with some buddies on a weekend I actually dropped psi to 18-19...for straight line.
I'm now running the 305 MT ET Street S/S on 11" rims and never even felt or thought of "wiggle" on highway since....at 20psi. I know a guy who actually runs his MT's at 16psi ...11" rims...all the time . He says he does not feel any highway compromise nor does he seem to care !

Might be worth it to have the tires Road Force checked. They could be out of round or need to be force matched to the rims.

Mickey has the better compound, but Nitto has a better tire structure in my opinion.

This is true, but on my 2013 GT500 I ran the 305 M/T SS tires on my stock wheels and the car never swayed at all, I than put them on my silver GT500 and they were terrible, the car was scary over 130, I put the NT05Rs on and the car was perfect. I've never used the M/T tires again. I think the sidewalls are way to soft on the M/Ts
