So I’ve never had a black car, well not one I detailed more than hand wash and hand wax before I knew of any other way. I have quite a few waxes and sealants but really just a couple of corrective types, one is mequires m105 which I haven’t used in a while but think I recall a lot of dust and didn’t care for. The other is BOSS and a combo corrective/wax type. The car isn’t swirled bad and overall is in good shape, has wax on it now but I can feel it needs clay and the works.

Wanted to see from a few of you experienced with black and even maybe GT500 paint in general if there is a best / preferred corrective all the way to wax and sealant for this color and paint? I know there will be several opinions but whatever they are, it’ll be better than mine.

Thanks in advance, want to get this going and plan to do wheels, tires and leather while my order comes in.

You are a glutton for punishment like myself. The color is unforgiving, but gorgeous when polished clean. I brought back my used one with t bye old school products. Turtle wax ribbing compound then mothers carnauba. It took a week of evenings, but my 11 year old was a slave driver. We bought the microfiber towels at Walmart. Used mothers back to black on the plastics.

+1!

I've owned nothing but black (fun) cars for over 30yrs, so I definitely qualify as another glutton for punishment. I've used LOTS of different products in that time, eventually deciding Adam's stuff best met my needs. It's not cheap stuff, but there's always some kind of sale/coupon available. It's also the only stuff I've used that all works exactly as advertised. Should anything not do so, hard goods are backed by out 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 1 year-manufacturers warranty. Chemicals and towels are not backed by a 1 year warranty, buy are backed by a 30-day 110% satisfaction guarantee. Their forums and web site's LEARN section are informative. The professional staff and forum volunteers are knowledgable and helpful.

All of that said, I grew tired of the frequency with which I had to polish, seal, wax, glaze, etc my current 2013 after over 5yrs of doing so. With that in mind, I had it professionally ceramic coated last year. I still use Adam's products for maintenance, but I spend a lot less time on that and more enjoying the car.

I've had good luck with Sonax/ Wolfgang Products this last time around.

Sonax Perfect Finish
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant.
Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz.

Thanks guys for input. I've got a lot of Adams Products too, but I'll check the website again and watch some of the vids. I'll also checkout the Sonax and Wolfgang, never used them at all, so I'll read some info and reviews.

I've had the best luck with Zaino. Once applied lasts a long time. Also the swirl remover is the only product that I've tried that actually works. Use the full product line its a night and day difference. Better than showroom quality imo. Paint will have a mirror finish. One purchase an usually get 3-5years out of it. It doesn't take much on the product.

Reading this thread I feel like I'm at an anonymous meeting LOL. "Hello my name is [insert name], I have a black GT500 and I'm a glutton for punishment."

The best advice I can give reinforces Norton's comment. GET THE CAR CERAMIC COATED! OMG what a difference it makes, paint is deeper, glossier, stays cleaner better, is easy to wash and clean. It really is a night and day difference, can't believe I went so many years before doing this. Went the less expensive route and installed myself using Adams ceramic kit. If your willing to do all the work it's really not that expensive to ceramic coat.

In a perfect world where my paint isn't all rock chipped from daily driving I would doing a clear protective vinyl and then ceramic coat that.

Sorry for repeat post, above gave me a server error, try again, but posted anyway and then posted again.

I just got some Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish delivered today, was going to give that a shot....but went ahead and washed last night, probably wasted my time I guess as i'll probably clay etc over the next week or so, takes me a lot longer nowadays since I have congestive heart failure.
But, the paint is really in great condition already, was hard to tell as it was delivered a short distance in the rain, so it was not clean until last night. But I do think i'll end up doing ceramic coating, might as well do the CO Ecoboost too.

Blacklight is AWESOME but it is a dyed glaze and will stain your pads/MF towels. It can be an LSP but I always put sealant and wax over it.

Thanks for heads up, I got it but haven't got around to detailing yet....big commitment for me over days as I'm very picky.

I'll see if I can get some pics of what I did to my Mach 1 last year. Started with a foam-cannon 2BW since it had been sitting in a shop for 3 months, dried, clayed everything, then started with Chemical Guys V34 an a coarse MF pad, moved to V36 with a fine MF pad, and V38, hit it with two coats of Blacklight, then JetSeal, and finished up with Griot's Best of Show paste wax (love that stuff). The paint is museum quality, and I am supremely proud of the results.

Hey OP, pretty simple and straight forward. I have a black F150 and have had 3 black daily drivers. (I now stick with white and kona blue)

MGs 105
MGs 205
Wet Mirror Finish
Butter Wet Wax
V07 Detail Spray

All-Clean
Silk Shine (water based NOT OIL BASED, like some junk names out there)

Porter Cable
Orange Hex
White Hex
Chemical Guys "Happy Ending Microfibers"

It maybe over kill, and maybe someday I will just do a light polish and ceramic coat. However, the Wet Mirror Finish works great. Reason, it has an anti static property. Which helps.

https://www.chemicalguys.com/wet-mirror-finish-glaze/wet-mirror-finish-glaze.html

Use This Glaze To:

  • Reduce friction and static charge
  • Level out an uneven paint surface
  • Deepen the depth of dark colors
  • Warm the glow on light colors
  • Repel fresh dust from sticking
